Mets Pick #27 – OF/DH – Zach Rheams – Texas Tech
@Rheams18
NYFS –
OF
Zach Rheams - L/R, 7/5/96 - Texas Tech U - 6'0", 235 lbs
Rheams is a big outfielder who hit for a ton of power this
year. Rheams hit .329/.460/.686 with 17 homers. He also has some problems with
swinging and missing too much but the raw power potential exists.
Has DHed almost exclusively the 2 yrs at TT. I wonder if he's
really 1B only. Looks like he rakes tho. Didn't start off the season in the TT
regular lineup but once he got an opportunity, it looks like he never stopped
hitting.
Viva The Matadors –
There
is a rule somewhere that if you hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the
ninth inning that you automatically win Hitter of the Week. Zach Rheams did
just that. He hit two home run balls this week that unofficially went a
combined two miles.
The senior DH has locked down the DH job over the past two
weeks with his home run power. Several hitters attempted to fill this role with
limited production. Rheams is second on the team with six home runs this season
in only 18 games played and hitting .326 for the season.
This week, he hit .429 with two home runs and four RBIs. In
addition, he scored an incredible six runs for a middle of the order power
hitter.
CBS7 –
Rheams,
a native of Angleton, joined the Red Raiders in 2017 and claimed the starting
designated hitter spot as his own this year. Rheams leads the squad in homers
with 16, giving him the most in a single season by a Red Raider since Roger
Kieschnick in 2008. His three dingers during the NCAA Lubbock Regional earned
him Regional MVP and All-Tournament honors, while being placed on the All-Big
12 First Team at the end of the regular season. Rheams heads into the weekend
with 50 hits, 53 RBI and 37 runs scored in 45 games played and 37 starts in
2018.
My kind of pick....POWER! Maybe he can cut the Ks down.
