Hello my name is Tony Plate. I’m from Binghamton, NY. I’ve been a Mets fan since 1967. It is a pleasure to be on this site. I wish the Mets success in 2018.
The Jacob deGrom rumors continue. I understand that the
Brewers are interested. They have the best record in their division and one of
the best records in the National League. deGrom would make the Brewers instant
world series contenders. Since deGrom is an elite type of pitcher the Brewers
would have to part with a few of their top prospects.
Another team that can
use a front- line type of pitcher would be the Yankees and they currently have
the major league players that in my opinion that would make the Mets very much
interested. The Mets need an upgrade in the long-term at catcher, third base,
and at second base. So how about a possible trade in which the Yankees can send
Gary Sanchez, Miguel Andujar and Tyler Wade for Noah Syndergaard and Kevin
Plawecki? I mention Noah instead of deGrom, because deGrom is approaching
thirty and Noah is twenty-five which would be more appealing to the Yankees
therefore I think they would make this trade without hesitation. Also, this
trade would add much needed power to the Mets offense.
It is known that the Yankees have called twenty teams in
their search for another starter. I think at the current time the Mets would be
the best team to call if a team is looking for both a front-line type of
pitcher that can also be the ace of a staff, because both deGrom and
Syndergaard are that number one type of pitchers. It is rare for a team to have
two pitchers that can anchor a staff.
Also, it looks like the Mets will not be making the playoffs so I think
that they would be sellers and would be willing to listen to serious offers for
at least one of the pitchers. Since both the Mets and Yankees are friendly
rivals you would think that both teams would be willing to make more trades
with each other which in my opinion would be more be more entertaining for the
fans meaning since the two teams have the players that they seek for
improvement maybe that can lead to a subway series in the near future?
Next month should be full of excitement for NY fans at the
trade deadline to see if the Mets can make trades to restock their farm system
so they can become serious contenders in the near future. As for the Yankees
would they look to the Mets for another front- line pitcher to team with Luis
Severino so they can get past the defending champion Houston Astros who look
like the team to beat for the Yankees to get to the World Series. Only time
will tell.
Welcome aboard, Tony.
ReplyDeleteI would do that Sanchez/Andujar for Thor/Plawecki trade.

Syndergaard and Plawecki for Sanchez, Andujar and Wade?? You have a better chance of hitting Powerball
Yes, welcome Tony.
ReplyDeleteYou are not far from my old stomping grounds (Oneonta).
Interesting take on trading one of our "aces". I am on board IF we can get multiple, IMPACT players in return. Not a collection of kids in Single A, but players ready to contribute.
I agree that third base is a troubling void, but I would also add center field
to that list (we have a ton of short stop prospects, so one of them can slide over to second base, IMO).
I, too, would deal Noah before Jake....despite their ages.
One other thing.......don't you love all the Yankee fans who want one of our "aces" for less then they got for half a season of Aroldis Chapman?
ReplyDeleteBoth Jake and Noah are young, cost effective and under control for multiple seasons, so the price is going to be HIGH! Like two or three STUD prospects...if not, then go pound sand.
Hey Tony. Great first post.
ReplyDeleteI forwarded your post on by Twitter account and got the response I posted above from a Yankees fan. Thought you would find it amusing.
Me?
I change my desires here almost overnight.
Right now, I want both Jake and Thor signed through 2023. I'd like to take those two off the table and build a new team with them, Gsellman, Lugo, Drew Smith, McNeil, Alonso, Rosario, Conforto, and Nimmo.
We're probably stuck with the Cespedes contract so we might as well play him when he is healthy.
Past that, I would offer uo Matz to the Yanks for two chips.
Glad to see you come around to keeping them Mack. Yes, they’d command a haul but that level of pitching talent rarely comes around and they’d be almost impossible to replace.
DeleteA decently-run big market team would eat a large portion of the Cespedes deal for two years to move him. It’s very doable. Unfortunately we know who the owners are and you’re right - we’re stuck with him.
Mack, if Matz keeps dealing, I don't see why the Yanks wouldn't covet a lefty like him. Still think if he could ever stay healthy, we might find him mimicking Andy Pettite. I'd take two very high impact, low risk minor leaguers for him.
ReplyDeleteMack, we may have someone to fill that "3B void" - Jeff McNeil.
Also... let's not forget that Wheels is healthy, hitting 99, and has another year before eligibility
ReplyDeleteTom -
ReplyDeleteMcNeil, Guillorme, and Alonso call all play all three infield positions.
And it will get even better when Gimenez arrives in 2020.
Agreed on Gimenez......he is my second baseman of the future (2020).
ReplyDeleteIt would be awesome if McNeil can take over third, but he would be a weapon as a Zobrist-type, too.
don't count out Gimenez as the SS of the future...
ReplyDeleteRosario hasn't proven anything and his defensive numbers are not impressive...
Mack if Matz would be traded to the Yankees, Would they give up Sheffield and Florial? or Florial and that Catching prospect they drafted?
Eddie -
ReplyDeleteRe: Gimenez yes, I would place him on SS when he is ready. Rosario could easily move to third and McNeil play second
Re: Matz to Yanks - it all matters on how much they need a lefty SP3. They develop a lot of things over there but they have had a checkered past on developing front end starters.
How quickly can Peterson get up to the majors and hold down an SP4 or 5?

ReplyDeleteEarliet - 2o21
really Mack ? that long?
ReplyDeleteWhy draft College players if they take 5 years...
I was college = 3 years, HS = 5 years...
I was thinking more like late next year...
Ugh...a little disappointing, as a college draftee I hoped he’d be in AAA by the middle of next year and ready to compete for a back end rotation spot in 2020. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteWelcoome aboard, Tony.
ReplyDeleteI'm in the Branch Rickey school of, "We finished last with you. We can finish last without you."
You know the Mets are not going to pony up and pay their two aces what they're worth. And before you think this is the usual "Wilpons are cheap" rant, there's a validity to the business model of replenishing with lower cost talent. The problem is that Sandy Alderson/John Ricco have no eye for talent. Omar Minaya does. Let him do what he does best and start a bidding war for the aces. You should net a minimum of six solid new players for the two of them around whom you can build. Hopefully four of them pan out. Right now there's not a lot of "there" there.
Going into next season you have no one penciled in at 2B, Frazier may be dealt thus creating a vacancy at 3B, no catcher, no TRUE centerfielder and not a lot of cash. I think building for the future is the way to go.
@Eddie -- While the Braves go to battle with 20 and 21 year olds (and are in first place), the Mets just promoted a 26 year old to AAA because he's not ready for the majors yet in their estimation. The Mets are much closer to last than to first.
ReplyDeleteCoincidence?
I will do some research on when Sandy and Company drafted college junior pitchers and when they made it to Queens.
ReplyDeleteI am in my wife's doctor office right now on my tele while she has an MRI
