  2. Rusty -

Oakland has great depth in their pipeline.

A couple of names I would love to see in this trade:

    Ex-Yanks IF Jorge Mateo -

    3B Sheldon Neuse

(BTW... Arizona has a better pipeline)

  3. What really is bizarre is he's still in the clubhouse, but there are no uniforms in his locker

  4. Is this per a source - or did you see that on SNY last night ?

  5. Reports of low level prospects from Oakland?

    Oh boy.
    Another handful of relievers?

I really hope this is not another waste of a trade like last years.

  6. Just as I feared.
    Garbage.
    A 24 yr old 3rd baseman in high A.
And of course a reliever.....not even ranked.

Only good thing is international bonus pool money.

I imagine the trade was put in place by the "great" Ricco....
And then Omaya pushed for the bonus pool money.

  7. What? Scrubs? We have up fulmer for a playoff push! Same scenario here! They were needy, not us! What had to be negotiated? They are nugatory.

  9. this was a very bad, cheap deal

Wilpon lied. He said he would take back money so he could get a better return and he didn't.

The best part of this deal was the International money which might help find us a player that can play in Queens... in 2023

    1. So this kid they’re talking about - the Cuban defector - does this mean he’s available next signing period - or this one Mack ?

  10. Rusty -

    I'm not sure.

I don't follow the news on players that the Mets are never going to make an offer to.

  11. Lol ok I’m just going on soeculation by Joe DeMayo

  12. This is a death knell. It needs to be addressed in a serious media forum why the Mets lied about kicking in cash, and why they have moved a top-notch closer for no material return. And here's outside the box: we could just keep good players as a last resort-but were compelled to not even normally ideate this in the confused and dreadful cyclone of the Wilpon financial ledger.

  13. I'm sorry. I am now considering the Wilpons received trade remuneration outside baseball asset. I have no evidence, but the wide lacuna in the sensibility of this trade invites such notion.

  14. Joe DeMayo estimates that the Mets are currently at $1,833,500 in International money and it will take $3,000,000 to sign Mesa.

  15. There is a grand plan here somewhere

    1. If it is the Met's, it has to be a half-a*$@ "grand"plan.

  16. I noticed that Omar was the guy that issued a statement about the International growth... could mean he's once again heavily involved in that area.

  17. honestly, sell the goddamn team. this deal is an embarrassment.

  18. Its not even Toffey, what the hell do i know about a 23 year old 3rd base prospect, its Wahl, we know what he is, its why as a premiere college closer he lasted to the 5th round and still hasnt become an mlb player.

The whole thing feels disingenuous. You're telling me, they couldnt have gotten toffey, the intl bonus money and a prospect who doesnt need to be added to the 40 man when they are already in a 40 man crunch bc of relievers who throw hard but dont have breaking ball, if they had added 1mm of cash. Or at the very least 1mm intl bonus money and the 10-15th best prospect on a team that has a mediocre pipeline instead of org fodder.

I really dont get how they do budgeting. You know the majority of your revenues, you know what your expenses are. If you projected to make money and now have to sell off your expenses someone should be fired for not knowing how to do their jobs.

Its like they traded him now to save the 500k in salary he would have made between today and the deadline

  19. I like the Familia trade.

Bobby Wahl has very impressive AAA stats: 6'2"/210, 2.20 ERA, 3-2, 11 in 12 attempt saves, and 69 KO's in 41 innings. Not bad. And Jeurys did well last night with Oakland. The earth moves on, but the oxon do not care.

Gerson Bautista had a nice relief outing last night in Vegas too. Could you imagine a 2019 Mets bullpen with seven from this young grouping: Wahl, Bautista, Callahan, Lugo, Gsellman, G. Bautista, Drew Smith, Bashlor, and one more hopefully a power lefty armed reliever. I could. I wonder if this is where Steven Matz might actually belong too? Two innings, throws hard, gets the outs for the victory, game over, Mets win.

Good lefty, hard throwing pitchers are hard to find.

AAA Zach Borenstein had like four hits the past two Vegas games, with two doubles. Mets could definitely use him. he seems to be gelling.

  20. From strictly a NY Mets fan's opinion, would any of you here favor a Jacob deGrom trade, or not?

    Me?

I have been lately trying to decide this question myself. I keep vacillating on it moving from the pros to the cons of this quickly, and then back again.

    What first?

You have to project out your 2019/25-man roster by using the players on the current 25 man roster that you want back, and then add in too a forecast of which minor league Met players could make it up and be successful playing for the Mets in 2019.

After having done all this, then you have to look at open positions not covered by the above two groups of organizational players. I could see the Mets needing three players from outside the organization to complete their 2019/25-man roster. Three. Something along these lines: a later inning lefty reliever, a catcher with sincere HR pop, if there are any out there, and a power hitting third baseman.

Three is pretty average actually for any MLB team to fill during the off season. However, maybe it would be wise to get started on this soon and not wait until the off season fiasco?

The minuses to trading deGrom are that he is probably one of the top two or three starters in today's MLB, and they don't come along very often to this team. He hasn't been hurt all season long and could stay healthy for a few seasons possibly. The fans like Jake a lot too. And finally, his contract has been reasonable to date.

It's a crapshoot sometimes. But to me, it's all about how badly a team would want him, and what the Mets could bring back for him. It would have to be a deal that the NY Mets could not turn down.

  21. So overall from Vegas, maybe soon: OF Borenstein, RP G. Bautista, INF McNeil and then down the road a bit 1B P. Alonso, and even SP Crismatt and/or Dunn?

    Might be good.

  22. I am liking the play of "Joey Bats" lately too. Maybe Frazier could play some second or short?

But "Joey Bats" is pounding the baseball. And he is playing a more aggressive third base I am noticing.

    He only keeps getting better!
