Around the Corn
ReplyDeleteA lot of, their displeasure at him getting hurt. After all, how dare he, right? He was supposed to be immortal.
Here's my take, for whatever it's worth...
Yoenis has been the driving offensive force on this team for awhile. We all loved his homeruns, which were at times quite plentiful and always spectacular. With Yo in the lineup, there was always that fear factor that every good team needs to have. The minute he came back from his injury recently, we all could feel a lift to this team. I know that I could. But he has a serious foot condition that hot water whirlpools and bandages cannot erase. Sure, I am disappointed too, just like everyone else, but unfortunately, this is also a part of life just not the best part.
All we can do now is accept it as a part of this game we all love, and wish Yo the best with his operation and recovery time. Getting back back to the challenge here of winning games (just like the one last night) is the focus. I think this team and management as well, will all step up and embrace this challenge. There are other drivers here now too.
This Yoenis Cespedes injury and its recovery time of 8-10 months could make us all, the team, the players, management, and the fans better and give opportunity to this team's other outfield players to grow and shine in their own light. This is the time for stars to be made.
Trade Rumors are usually just that...Rumors.
ReplyDeleteOne of the more recent rumors making the rounds today includes the San Diego Padres and the NY Mets. It revolves around the starting pitchers that the Mets have, of course and per usual.
Realistically, the Mets have their five starters now with the addition of a very impressive right hander named Corey Oswalt. He is locking into the MLB level now and will only get better from here.
Down on farm, the Mets appear to have two more viable (if not outstanding) starters for 2019, right hander Justin Dunn (who is coming on strong and Baseball America's No. 4 on their current "Hot List") and left hander wizard Nabil Crismatt. Not bad Mets fans!
So overall, the Mets have starting pitcher "pretty much covered for sometime" thanks to GM Sandy Alderson and his scouting staff. It's a real advantage for any team to have such good young pitchers in the wings and getting ready for their shot up on the Mets. Kudos.
I have absolutely no clue as to the credibility of this Padre/Mets rumor, but it is sort of interesting to see. It could be viable or it could be a lot of hot air or puffy clouds. But I did want to scout over the Padres anyway, so I did.
The Padres just acquired from Cleveland the highly touted catcher Francisco Mejia. They already had on their parent club Austin Hedges a young (25) year old catcher also with some potential, but a disappointing BA overall.
Another SD AAA player I like a lot is gigantic outfielder Franmill Reyes from the DR. He is the real deal, a RF with 15 HR and a .328 BA at current. This kid has big-time potential, did I say "big time", oh yes I just did! Maybe even star material. We will see. Acquiring Franmill by any team, might be a good thing and give that team trade potential with their other outfielders.
As for the Padre starting rotation, it is thin right now and this is precisely why they are pursuing starting pitching. None of their parent club starting pitching has a winning record at current, but it could be in part because of the obvious youth of their ball club.
Their best AAA starter is righty Brett Kennedy age 23, he is 9-0 on the season thus far, with a 1.12 WHIP and 70 KO to 78 innings ratio. For his MiLB career, Brett is 30W-20L with a 3.33 ERA. Brett has two good seasons behind him.
The Padres best relief pitcher is 31 year old righty Kirby Yates with a 50 KO to 38 innings of work. The weakest position on the Padre field right now is probably centerfield. Down at AAA El Paso they do have Luis Urias a 21 year old middle infielder with a career .303 BA.
Overall, it would be hard for me to say that SDP has the talent needed to make a trade for another team's top starter. However, if they were willing to include catcher Francisco Mejia and RF Franmill Reyes in a package coming back, then maybe.
We'll see if anything transpires with the Padres. But like I said above, the NY Mets are in a pretty good place with the seven excellent starters they have now.
