Tom Brennan: UP-AND-DOWNTRENDING METS MINORS HITTERS
Seven teams, so many hitters. Not going to cover them all, not by a long shot, so I thought I would cover upward trending and downward trending hitters.
Based on stats through Tuesday:
AAA LAS VEGAS:
Jeff McNeil - the 19 homers-in-80-games-former-slap-hitter has been trending upwards all season, to the point that when he has a game like Tuesday's, where he singled and walked, you feel, well, disappointed. UPWARD!
Luis Guillorme - despite his puzzlingly weak MLB debut, when he did not hit despite fanning only once every 22 plate appearances, he has hit .312/.393/.433 in 45 AAA games. UPWARD!
Peter Alonso - the super bomb in the Futures game and his 3 homer AAA game aside, Pete has slumped mightily in AAA...he is hitting just .174 in 25 AAA games, with 34 Ks. (Temporarily) DOWNWARD!
Kevin Kaczmarski - has hit very well in the minors this year - .357 to be precise - but no HRs in 149 plate appearances is just not helpful to his cause. Nor was his recent 0 for 4 MLB cameo. He needs to take Jeff McNeil Homer Pills, guaranteed to work or your money back. (Mostly) UPWARD!
AA BINGHAMTON:
Tomas Nido - finally hitting - in his last 7 games, 10 for 28 with 2 homers and 6 RBIs. UPWARD!
Levi Michael - former Minny first rounder, Michael has hit .350 over his last 10 games and a strong .296/.381/469 in 85 games, but with 78 Ks. Only 8 errors at SS and 2B this season, too. UPWARD!
Tim Tebow - I write about him all the time - besides Levi Michael, he is the team's hottest hitter since Alonso and McNeil got promoted. 'nuff said. UPWARD!
HIGH A ST LUCIE:
Andres Gimenez is the best of a weak hitting much. UPWARD!
Wheaties is prescribed for the Lucite Metsies.
FULL A COLUMBIA:
Since Ali Sanchez and Jeremy Vasquez got promoted fairly recently, not much hitting to be excited about.
C Scott Manea, though, has done really well all year, hitting .260/.382/.426 in 66 games, with 16 doubles and 7 homers. UPWARD!
ROOKIE - BROOKLYN CYCLONES:
1B Chase Chambers is doing well since drafted: 26 G, .313/.389/.417. UPWARD!
OF Anthony Dirocie in Brooklyn and Kingsport is slugging at .377/.482/.667 in 21 games. Greatly improved strikeout rate, too. Best power hitter in the minors right now besides Alonso and McNeil. UPWARD!
C Nick Meyer - the defensive specialist has fanned just 4 times in 56 PAs, hitting .291. UPWARD!
OF Ross Adolph - .262/.357/.440 - the speedster already has 5 steals and 5 triples. UPWARD!
ROOKIE - KINGSPORT:
C Hayden Singer - just promoted to Brooklyn, the 2018 draftee is hitting .400 in 40 at bats. UPWARD!
CF Raul Beracierta - scorching - in 18 games, ripping at .393/.519/.656! WOW! UPWARD!
1B Gavin Garay - has made his at bats count - 4 homers in 11 games (and added a 5th on Wednesday), and hitting .372/.413/.698! UPWARD!
2B Luis Santana - 22 games, .348/.435/.467 - what's not to like? UPWARD!
CF Guillermo Granadillo - 17 games, 8 steals, .333! His base stealing leads are porbably as long as his name. UPWARD!
OF Jarred Kelenic - cooled a bit since promoted, but the lad, who just turned 19 (happy birthday!) is hitting .352/.427/.592 with 17 RBIs in 19 games!
Already listed a top 100 MLB prospect. UPWARD!
ROOKIE - GCL METS:
Ronnie Mauricio - the wunderkind 17 year old sensation is hitting .351, slugging .534, and 24 RBIs in 26 games. WOW! UPWARD!
That's it for now, folks. The trend, especially in the lower minors, is:
UPWARD!
2 for 4 with a homer and walk for Alonso...the slump may be over.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I worry about regarding Alonso is his glove
ReplyDeleteMack, I saw an interview with Alonso at the Futures game...he seems confident, a leader type, and said he is working hard to improve his defense. Working had gets you there 9 times out of 10.
