Roster
Moves – The Mets acquired the service
of infielder Jack Reinheimer from the Arizona
Diamondbacks. Reinheimer was a 5th round pick by Seattle in the 2013
draft, out of East Carolina University. He has played all three infield field
positions though his prime position is short. His best year was 2017 when he
hit .278 in AAA. He returned there this year, as a third baseman, and has hit
.237.

Yesterday
was a nothing burger.
Most
fans expected a bunch of moves yesterday, but let’s remember that players like Wilmer Flores, Devin Meseraco, Jose
Bautista,
and Jerry Blevens could be waived in August.
I
didn’t expect much to happen here. I figured that was very little interest in either
Mesoraco and Bautista, but I was hoping the Mets could at least move them for
International money.
I
guess, in the long run, I’m relieved that the top four Mets starters are still
wearing Met uniforms, but I have no solution for 2019.
The
thing is… what will the 2019 Mets look like?
We’re doing everything we can to build an infield of 1B Peter Alonso, 2B Jeff McNeil, SS Amed Rosario, and 3B Todd Frazier. Our best two reserves here
would be Wilmer
Flores and
Luis Guillorme. Catcher wise, Tomas Nido would join Kevin Plawecki. In the outfield, Yoenes Cespedes will be on the DL, leaving is Michael Conforto, Brandon Nimmo,
Jay Bruce,
and Juan Lagares.
Forget pitching. Is this
enough?
Frankly, I just don’t see it.
And
we can’t keep saying that the Mets don’t spend money. They do spend money. They
just spend it badly (David Wright, Cespedes, Bruce, etc.).
In
my opinion, this team will have to lead the National League in earned run
average in order to make the playoffs, Can that happen with the current pen?
Matthew
Cerrone - “I’m not even sure who we’re supposed to be in
contact with over there,” a rival FO source told me when I asked for his take
on Mets
Tim Britton
– Lyin’ Ricco: Pete Alonso is going to stay in
Triple-A, "at least for the time being." Smith would get another shot
at 1B before Alonso. – I also read that Jay Bruce is going to get significant
time at first when he comes back. Looks like Peter should settle into the dry
heat of Nevada.
Michael
Baron - I’m not asking the Mets to make
trades for the hell of it or to make bad deals. But I look at what Cashman was
able to do in acquiring all of that int’l pool $, while getting rid of a lot of
extraneous, and I see creativity for the future. Mets could learn a thing or 2
there.
Lastly…
I
turned the game off when the Mets went down 7-0 in the first inning. I didn’t
look at it again, but I did get a text from Tom
Brennan,
telling me that Jeff
McNeil hit
his first professional home run. Good for him. It wasn’t until this morning
that I clicked on MLB.com and saw the final score.
I hit 'control, alt, delete', but the same score came up.
Imagine
living the rest of your life with the knowledge that you hit your first pro
homer in a game you lost by 21 runs?
I
also saw that Jose
Reyes pitched the last
inning, giving up six runs? Is this Reyes’s swan song? I think not.
I
haven’t checked what our fearless manager said after this game, but it probably
was something like ‘I see positive signs in this game’. Positive signs. Drew Smith’s one scoreless inning? The food
served by the Nats’ caterer?
I
don’t know where to go from here. I’ll write this off as a goofball game, but
the Mets may want to consider going to the bottom of the tank for the remainder
of this season so we can least get a top five draft pick.
The worse part is we are not even one of the bottom 5 teams with the current situation...
ReplyDeleteEven when we are bad we are not Bad enough...
I'm tired of caring more than the owners and front office do.
ReplyDeleteStop going to games, stop buying jerseys, stop padding their pockets...
ReplyDeleteHaven't 90%+ of the Met fanbase already stopped doing these things?
DeleteLast night felt like a post-deadline, team wide cry for help from everyone who wasn’t traded away from this mess.
ReplyDeleteToday's game assured us that they'll bring Reyes back and why did we give up on Tommy Milone!!!! O.K. seriously I don't know what's worse: getting beat by 21 runs or following it up by getting 3 hit for 7 innings by Tommy gun Milone. At least we've put an exclamation point on sucking so they'll be no front office spin on this disaster of a season.....oh wait maybe we can pick up Aoki and win enough to be out of the top 10 draft picks after all doesn't MC keep talking about having to win more games.
ReplyDeleteAlso I would sure love to know what the boys in the booth really think about the present situation. At least they get paid to watch this s++t.
ReplyDeleteAlonso could use another month in the Vegas furnace to refine his gold. If Bruce settles in at 1B, then I imagine Alonso would have to be traded. We'll regret that one too.
ReplyDeleteMcNeil's homer on Tuesday was a very nice shot. Hoping for many more in the future.
Glass Half Full
ReplyDeleteAt AAA Vegas, a 6-3 victory over the Omaha Storm Chasers. Bright spots: three homers, one by Kivlehan (his number eight) and two for three. He is now batting .295 on the season. Bryce Brentz is back, went 2 for 4 and hit his number 8 round-tripper on the season. He is now batting .272, and Christian Colon SS/3B with a blast, was 1 for 4 and is now batting a healthy .296. Ironically, all three Vegas players are age 29.
At AA Binghamton, a 2-1 victory over the Yardgoats. In this game, 19 year old Andres Gimenes went 2-4 from SS. On the year Andres is batting a wholesome .281, 6 HR, 31 SB (oh yeah baby!), with a .348 OBP. On the pitch side, The Ryder Express Ryan got the win from the pen and is now 3-1 on the season. he also has a very attractive 2.70 ERA and a WHIP to die for at 1.02.
There is hope and Tug was right Mets fans!
Such a strange Red Sox vs. Yankees Game Last Night
ReplyDeleteStrange, because it was a matchup of the well established CC Sabathia, a battler with battle scars and a long list of impressive victories under his belt, versus the Red Sox sixth or seventh starter Bryan Johnson who has started very few games to date in 2018, mainly because the Red Sox are currently down Chris Sale their ace and their third starter ERod.
I did not expect Boston to win like they did last night, it was an offensive explosion after being down early in this game. To me, this series is kind of a "tell all" on how this season could go from this point forward.
The Yankee fans should not in anyway despair, no matter how this series goes the next three games. They have their ace starter Severino on the mound tonight, and there are better days ahead for them.
You have to remember that this 2018 NY Yankees team really is a whole season ahead of schedule and it should only get a whole lot better for them from this point on, and heading into 2019. Rome was not built overnight.
I have followed these two teams closely all season from an objective point of view. I think there is much for the Mets as an organization to learn form both teams. The biggest difference between these two teams (to me) has been this:
1. The Red Sox are deeper right now in their player personnel and their bullpen is more established with like four very effective pitchers there. 2. There is less reliance for Boston on any one player. In other words, anyone on this team can step up big and be the hero any game. 3. Both teams have rookie managers (as do these NY Mets), but the way Alex Cora manages is way more relaxed and analytical, and his players are allowed to be more relaxed and have a lot more fun playing together. It is a tighter unit (like a big family)and a better team chemistry than pretty much every team I have seen play in 2018.
But tonight is a new game. This is a fun series for baseball lovers.
