BRADENTON, Fla. (August 1, 2018) – The Bradenton Marauders scored five runs in the fourth inning and held off the St. Lucie Mets 7-5 on Wednesday at LECOM Park.
The Mets fell behind 2-0 after the second inning but used the long ball to take a lead in the third. Luis Carpio and Jeremy Vasquez each hit a two-run homer off of Gavin Wallace to put the Mets up 4-2.
However, the Marauders scored five runs on six hits in the fourth inning to move in front 7-4. Albert Bauer and Hunter Owen hit back-to-back RBI doubles and Mitchell Tolman hit a run-scoring single.
The Mets were poised to rally in the seventh. They loaded the bases with no outs but could only muster a RBI sac fly from Luis Carpio.
Bradenton relievers Ronny Augustin, Blake Weiman and Angel German combined to retire nine of the final 10 Mets batters to end the game.
Wallace brushed off the rough third inning and got the win. He held the Mets to four runs over six innings.
Mets starter David Peterson took the loss. He was charged for seven runs on 11 hits in 3.2 innings.
Thomas McIlraith fired 3.1 scoreless innings of relief to keep the Mets in the game.
Eight of the nine hitters in the Mets lineup recorded hits. The homer for Vasquez was his first in the FSL.
Mike Paez hit a single to extend his hitting streak to 12 games.
Dale Burdick singled and walked twice.
