OPEN THREAD - P - Kyle Dowdy

The Mets chose 25-year old flamethrower, RHSP Kyle Dowdy (from Cleveland) in the Rule V draft.

He was a 12th round draft pick with the Tigers and was traded mid-season last year to the Indians.

Throws in the high 90s but always has been a high ERA/WHIP guy.

3 season total:  3.99/1.33

  1. A good organizational pick to fill an open slot in chain (like Dilson Herrera).

Fills open starter slot in Syracuse.

  2. Dowdy pitched just 3 years - last year, in AA and AAA, was shaky, but his last 4 starts?

23.1 IP, 18 hits, 10 walks, 7 earned runs, 27 Ks. Maybe the Mets saw that as a sign of breakthrough.

He had TJ surgery in 2014.

Drafted in 2015, but did not pitch professionally in 2015 after college pitching - likely innings-limited..

  3. Mets reported to be be converting him to the pen with the hopes he could come to Queens in the spring.

  4. Another hard thrower like Dowdy who had Tommy John, in the year before he reached the majors, was 7-7, 4.51, 1.45 WHIP, just 7.3 K/9, 147 IP, 168 hits allowed. Somewhat similarly unimpressive statistically. His name?

  5. I think he is a bullpen piece in the best case scenario.......middle inning guy who can come in and get a strikeout, etc.

    Still need some lefties, right?

  6. Was this the minor league phase?

Otherwise he to keep him he must stay on the 25-man all year.
