Syracuse, NY (April 8, 2018) - The Syracuse Mets won their fourth straight game with a 5-4 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Monday night at NBT Bank Stadium. Mets starting pitcher Chris Flexen struck out eight batters over six innings while allowing only one walk en route to the win.

Syracuse (4-1) got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, Rymer Liriano singled. Rajai Davis grounded into a fielder’s choice where Liriano was out at second base, but Davis was safe at first. With Dilson Herrera at the plate, Davis stole second base. Herrera then doubled to left field, scoring Davis for a 1-0 lead.

Rochester (1-4) took the lead in the top of the third. With two outs, Adam Rosales singled. John Andreoli followed with a home run to right field, giving the Red Wings a 2-1 advantage.

The Mets tied the game in the bottom of the third. With one out, Carlos Gómez doubled. Danny Espinosa followed with a double down the right-field line, scoring Gómez, knotting the game up, 2-2.

Syracuse regained the lead in the fourth. Travis Taijeron led off with a walk and then moved to third on a Liriano single. Three batters later, after Liriano stole second, David Thompson doubled, scoring both Taijeron and Liriano for a 4-2 Syracuse advantage.

The Mets added a run in the sixth. Liriano began the frame with his third single of the game. Davis then sacrificed Liriano over to second with a bunt. With Herrera batting, a wild pitch moved Liriano to third, and then Herrera singled to left field, scoring Liriano for a 5-2 edge.

The Red Wings tightened the margin in the ninth. With one out, Luke Raley walked. Brent Rooker followed with a homer over the left-center field wall, cutting the Syracuse lead to one, 5-4. That was as close as Rochester would get as Syracuse reliever Jacob Rhame retired two of the next three batters to pick up the save, securing the win.

Syracuse and Rochester continue their three-game series with the second game on Tuesday afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium.
