Tom Brennan - BACK TO NORMAL IN METSVILLE
When you've been a long time Mets fan, and you say we had a good night and things seem to be back to normal, you think of a game like last night.
As in:
Shutdown pitching, holding the opposition to a run on 3 hits.
Putting up a 5 spot in runs - not too many, not too few, just about right.
A 9th inning reliever not giving the opponent a sniff.
Of course, things also do even out. Steve Matz in his last Phillies start? 8 batters, 8 runs allowed.
This time? A run on 3 hits over 6. And one of his Ks got Bryce Harper yapping at the ump, who got tired of the yapping, and did what a dog owner would do to his barking mutt: he put him outside for the rest of the evening. See ya, Bryce.
A deep-to-right Squirrel homer (of course, for the third day in a row, a Met got hit by a pitch on the hand - looked painful, let's hope Jeff is OK.)
Followed by a plunking of Pete Alonso on the back - he patted the catcher to let him know, "we're not tussling here, we're playing baseball." After all, Pete had an opposite field double to drive in the game's first run, and a later single. He's .325/.419/.725 with 21 ribbies in 22 games. Pretty Ruthian.
A nice close out by Edwin the Great Diaz, 2 Ks and a ground out.
And the successful return of Todd Frazier.
In other words...
BACK TO NORMAL IN METSVILLE
I really enjoys watching Frazier plan third.
ReplyDeleteI forgot how well he plays defensively.
We've sucked so much this season so far defensively and we all know that DEFENSE WINS GAMES too,
Frazier at 3rd, and Guillorme at SS, the Mets were very defensive last night. I won't tell them there is no need to be defensive, because that would be a lie.
ReplyDeleteI just hope the two defenders can provide offense too.
Is J.D. Davis sticking pins in a Todd Frazier voodoo doll?
ReplyDeleteNow that Frazier is back, JD will feel like a Juvenile Delinquent.
DeleteIt's nice to be the better defensive team on the field once in a while. Last night was one of those rare times.
ReplyDeleteJust hope the new "Normal" lasts more than one night.
ReplyDeleteGary, it officially lasted more than one night!
