Tom Brennan - BIG ZACH ATTACK

Somewhere, Babe Ruth was smiling last night and saying "Attaboy, Zachie."

Because if Zach Wheeler pitches...and hits...like the Bambino, he could become a worldwide phenomenon.

11 Ks in 7 shutout innings to stymie Philly bats, and a timely early 2 run double ripped to right, followed by an Alonso-like HR, deep to the left of dead center.   WOWSERS.

Add in a 4 ribby Grannie Blast from Todd Frazier in his second game back, a welcome shutout inning apiece from Luis Avilan and Jacob Rhame, and there was joy in Metsville.

It was also good to see Mr. Cano with another multi-hit game, as he has gone from icy to dangerous with the stick, and Jeff McNeil has cooled a bit, but perfectly played an outfield hit and fired a beauty of a bullet on one bounce to home to nail the runner from 2nd trying to score by, oh, about 20 feet.  Top notch D from the a left field Squirrel.

Mashing Michael Conforto (.302/.419/.593) had 2 hits and a walk, and in years past would be the talk of the offense - now, his great start is just one of the topics in Metsville Hitter Land.  

And Luis Guillorme started at SS again and had a hit and a run - he and Frazier gave the Mets a lockdown defensive left side, when usually it is more like "lock UP and get 'em outa here" from the left side.

Can the Mets sweep Philly in this series? We'll soon find out. 

Oh, that is...can the FIRST PLACE Mets sweep Philly?
