Meat Loaf only had it partly right:
Knowing that the best teams only win 5 out of every 8 games over the course of the season, I guess two out of three ain't bad, but it still stinks for Mets fans to lose the third game of the series and miss the sweep.
Instead of ending the series two games up on the Philopians, the game went down the Tubes and the Mets ended the day even with them in the standings.
The Mets offense largely ground to a halt for one of the few times it has failed over the first 24 games.
But Robby Cano had 3 hits and has jumped nearly 100 points in a week. Eleven for his last 19, and up to .272. Nice.

Meanwhile, Mr. Multi Year, Mega Million, Bryce Harper, sits at a so-so .261.
Despite his grand slam the other day, I remain suspect of the ability of Todd Frazier (.182) until proven otherwise, and the apparently benched but productive J.D. Davis was seen picking not-so-splendid splinters out of his butt.
Also, let's hope Brandon Nimmo (.203) can come out of his funk forthwith, so we can smile like he does.

Jason Vargas gamely held Philly to a single run, but lasted only 4 2/3, leaving the game in the hands of the pyromaniacs known as the Mets bullpen, which has the 3rd worst bullpen by ERA in BB, 5.60, despite the to-date amazing services of Sir Edwin the Great, Master of the Inning Known as Ninth.
Rob Gsellman returned to being Hittable Rob, allowing 5 hits and 3 runs in the 8th, with the mediocre Jacob Rhame surrendering 2 runs in the 9th, including the revenge homer from Rhys Hoskins.
My nuns from grammar school would NOT be digging on the Mets' penmanship.
Next up...the Brew Crew for 4 games at home. They'll get to face Jake, Thor, Zach, and Matz, the Formidable Foursome. LGM.
we won the series on a field that we don't do that very often...

I have Gold Record for that album with my name on it
Nice, Mack - I saw Meat Loaf at My Fathers Place in Roslyn 2 weeks before they exploded onto the scene. When I saw them, I thought, when is this group going to be the next big thing? I didn't wait long.
