Charlotte 3 - St. Lucie 1

PORT ST. LUCIE Fla. (May 10, 2019) – For the second straight day, the Charlotte Stone Crabs beat the St. Lucie Mets by a 3-1 score.

PC - Ernest Dove Jr.
Carlos Cortes hit a home run in the first inning for the Mets but the offense went quiet the rest of Friday night against the Crabs at First Data Field.

The Stone Crabs tied the game in the fifth inning on a one-out RBI single by Seaver Whalen.

In the sixth inning, Ronaldo Hernandez reached on an error by Blake Tiberi to start the inning. Mets starter Tony Dibrell rebounded to strike out the next two batters but Carl Chester singled home Hernandez with a single to break the tie.

The Stone Crabs took advantage of another Mets error in the ninth inning and plated an insurance run on a two-out double by Hernandez.

The Mets only mustered three singles after Cortes, the second batter of the bottom of the first inning, hit his team-high third homer of the year.

Stone Crabs starter Tobias Myers escaped a bases loaded, one-out jam in the second inning by striking out consecutive batters. A double play ball induced by Myers in the third inning started a string of 13 consecutive hitters retired.

Dibrell took a tough luck loss. He allowed two runs (one earned) over 5.2 innings. He walked two, gave up five hits and struck out six.

Myers got the win. He held the Mets to one run on three hits over 6.2 innings.

Mikey York pitched around a one-out Luis Carpio single in the bottom of the ninth to covert his third save.

Manny Rodriguez and Mitch Ghelfi had the other hits for the Mets.

The Mets (18-15) and Stone Crabs (17-18) wrap up their three-game series at First Data Field on Saturday. The Mets have not been swept in a series this year. First pitch is 6:30 p.m. There will be postgame fireworks.
