Mack - 2019 Mets Transactions and Kudos

Thursday, May 9^th –

      -AA-Binghamton SP Mickey Jannis, who was returned to the B-Mets roster after a disaster start in AAA-Syracuse, has now been placed on the 10-day DL to hopefully work out what the heck went wrong on him The 31-year old knuckler has had a strange record so far this season… seven scoreless innings (0.00) in his only start at AA… 10 earned runs in 3.1 innings thrown in his only AAA start. Jannis needs to work the knots out of his rope post haste before guys like Harol Gonzalez and Tony Dibrell pass him by for consideration for a Queens promotion someday. Tossing ten earned runs in 3.1 innings doesn’t hack it at any level.

      The New York Mets have placed SP Stephen Matz on the 10-day IL with ‘radial nerve discomfort’. Normally, I like the 10-day rest period for guys with small or nagging injuries… gives the player to get some quick rehab in and allows the team to replace them with a fresh arm or bat. The problem here is the Mets are now down two starters and there are no decent fresh arms in the pipeline to replace them. There really is no one in AAA-Syracuse and the Mets would have to reach into AA-Binghamton for guys like Anthony Kay to help the situation.

Hmm.

      The Mets then recalled 1B Dominic Smith to add some bat strength to the clubhouse. He was batting .333 when he was sent down to AAA-Syracuse. We really need his bat around, especially as the first PH out of the dugout. And, it won’t hurt him for a little more ML exposure.

AAA-Syracuse RP Stephen Villines continued his scoreless streak with anther inning of no-bat ball. This guy is amazing.

AA-Binghamton SP David Peterson was throwing five scoreless innings and humming along on Thursday but hit a brick wall around the 80-pitch count. He never got an out in the sixth, but he still has now given up only 2-ER in the last 10.2-IP. It’s not enough to return him to the ‘red’ prospect list, but he’s heading back in the right direction. Seasonal ERA down to 5.06.

AA-Binghamton RP Ryley Gilliam threw up two more scoreless innings and lowered his Bing ERA to 3.00. Let’s remember he has given up five runs in two of the last 10 games he pitched in. The other eight are all goose eggs.

But what about Joseph Zanghi? Nine games for AA-Binghamton… 15.2-IP, ONE EARNED RUN, 0.57, 1.09. At least a ‘blue’ prospect, right?

A-Columbia 3B prospect, Mark Vientos (.227) hit his second home run of the young season. This was supposed to be the team with all the prospects to watch and the results have been sub-par so far. Maybe this is a sign that Vientos can lead the charge here.

A+ - St. Lucie ‘blue’ prospect starter, Tony Dibrell followed up his ‘league pitcher of the month’ award ceremony by tossing a 5.2-IP, 1-ER outing and lowering his seasonal ERA to 2.45. We are going to keep an eye on this guy and I’m not sure what will come first now… upping his chip to ‘red’ or promoting him to AAA-Syracuse.

AA-Binghamton 2b Arismendy Alcantara went 3-5 and raised his seasonal BA to an even .300.

‘Blue chip A-Columbia SP Colin Holderman gave up only one earned run in 5.1-IP, lowering his seasonal ERA to 1.74.

Fellow ‘blue’ chip prospect, RP Andrew Mitchell, pitched two more scoreless innings and lowered his A-Columbia ERA to 1.17

Mets 3B Jed Lowrie continues to rehab in AAA-Syracuse and raises his rehab BA to .200 by going 3-4.

AAA-Syracuse CF Carlos Gomez continues his torrid pace with a 2-3 game. Season BA: .282. Last 10 games… 4-HR, .410. What is it going to take for this guy to return to Queens?

Sat, May 11^th –

             The Mets placed RP Justin Wilson on the 10-day IL with left elbow soreness. In 10-appearanced, Wilson has gone 1-1, 4.82, 1.39 for the Mets.

             The Mets recalled RP Eric Hanhold from AAA-Syracuse. In 12-appearances this year for Cuse, the 25-year old has gone a repectable 2-1, 3.60, but his WHIP is a monstrous 1.80 due to 9-BB, in 15-IP.     Get that worked out and we have a workable piece here.

             Filling the open Hanhold slot in AAA-Syracuse is RP Corey Taylor who returns from the temp. inactive list.

             A-Columbia placed RP Chris Viall on the 10-day IL.The 23-year old was having a hard time keeping his head above water this season: 12-appearances, 0-1, 5.40, 1.40.

             A-Columbia recalled RP Billy Oxford from Low-A Brooklyn. Oxford has produced a 6.17-ERA so far this season for the Fireflies.

AA-Binghamton 2B Sam Haggerty 3-3, BA up to .276.

AA-Patrick Mazeika continues to play 1B and is slowing moving his batting average up. Last night: 2-4, a respectable .247

A-Columbia SP Thomas Szapucki started and pitched two more scoreless innings (1.23). I was hoping for at least three here, but this slow rehab seems to be working. Either way, 2019 looks like it’s going to another lost year in his projected debut in Queens someday.

A+ 1B Jeremy Vasquez 3-4, .276

A+ RP Yeizo Campos with two more scoreless innings (1.47).

AAA-Syracuse relievers, P.J. Conlon (0.00) and Stephen Villines (0.00) each threw up another inning of scoreless ball. Conlon struck out two in his inning. Villines struck out the side.
