Mack - 2019 Mets Transactions and Kudos

I have included my ‘Blue’ prospects on the prospect ranking bar on the right side of this lead page.

Sunday, May 12th

Mets manager Mickey Callaway announced that RP Jeurys Familia will return for Tuesday’s game; however, he will not be called upon to hold down (or try to hold down) the eighth inning. Callaway said that the Mets are very happy with the results of their current ‘back end’ relievers… Seth Lugo (11.1 scoreless innings), Robert Gsellman (9 scoreless innings) will remain as the front end, followed by Edwin Diaz. Callaway said who departs the 25-man will be announced before the two-day off period caused by Sunday’s rainout. (***the return on Familia was announced on Monday***).

AA-Binghamton placed RP Ryder Ryan on the 10-day IL. So far this season, Ryan was 0-1, 6.91, 1.53 in 14 innings for the B-Mets.

AA-Binghamton activated RP Joshua Torres from the 10-day IL. He hasn’t done much better than Ryan: 1-0, 6.75, 1.59.

            Kudos –

AAA-Syracuse SP Corey Oswalt (4-0) threw a no hitter into the sixth inning, lowering his Cuse ERA to 2.28. Maybe we could call him to… err… never mind.

Monday, May 13th -

The Mets sent RHP Neraldo Catalina to Tampa Bay to complete the trade made earlier of Wilmer Font to the Mets. The 20-year old Catalina was signed last July ($150K bonus) as an international free agent. The reports are that he already has a fastball that reached 95.

Listen.

Don’t react to what’s being said out there that the Mets’ traded away other prospect”. Catalina is NOT a prospect and if, five years from now, he becomes one, so be it.

Font may not be an all-star but he’s pitching in the majors RIGHT NOW.

And beat writers and bloggers are saying we shouldn’t have traded someone that isn’t even on my charts? The fact is they are just part of the ‘Negative Nelly’ @MetsTwitter crown that finds nothing good about nuthin’.

The Mets reassigned P Eric Hanhold to AAA-Syracuse.

Low-A Brooklyn has assigned P Tylor Megill to A-Columbia. In 2018, he went 1-2, 3.21 in 10 games for the Cyclones.

      Kudos –

A-Columbia ‘red’ prospect, SS Ronny Mauricio, continues to try and raise his seasonal batting average.

A-Columbla 1B, Chase Chambers, continues to impress with a bat in his hand. He hit .281 last season for the Cyclones after being a late round (18th) pick in the draft that year. This year, his batting average had risen to .300 at the end of the first game of last night’s doubleheader.

Yeah, I know, who needs a first baseman, right?
Well, stacking the deck with Pete Alonso (MLB), Dominic Smith (MLB/AAA), Patrick Mazeika (AA), Jeremy Vasquez (A+) and Chambers is just how depth is supposed to be at each position.

It seems to me that the Mets are destined to be ‘safe at first’ for quite a long time.

A-Columbia RP, Tyler McGill, pitched two scoreless innings (0.00) in his first pro outing this season.

A-Columbia ‘blue’ prospect, RP Andrew Mitchell pitched 1.2-IP, 0-R (1.06) and 4-K. It also was his first save this season.

A-Columbia newcomer, P Alec Kisena, started game two and tossed 3.2-IP, 0-R, 6-K. He also lowered his seasonal ERA to 2.38.

  1. I spun a couple of articles on the minors for tomorrow. But before tomorrow - let's win tonight!

  2. Unless that prospect becomes Pedro its fine. Tampa took a flyer on a guy they liked, but without any track record he's just a lottery ticket. Cant get mad about a guy who is at least 4 years away without any pedigree. But if they hit you tip your cap to the rays for stealing him and the Mets scouts for even finding him. He's not Kelenic.

    1. Can we trade Lowrie for an invalid to be named later?
