RP
Andrew Mitchell has been promoted from
A-Columbia to A+ St. Lucie. A-ball stats: 15-G, 19.2-IP, 32-K, 0.92
P
Jake Simon was transferred from Low-A Brooklyn
to A-Columbia.
Simon was the 11th
round pick in the 2015 draft, out of Ball (TX) HS. He went 11-G, 9-starts, 0-5,
4.04 for the Cyclones last year and this will be his first mound time in 2019
P
Billy Oxford was transferred from Low-A Brooklyn
to A-Columbia
P
Thomas Szapucki was sent down by A-Columbia to
Low-A Brooklyn.
It looks like any chance of
Szapucki returning to form this year is a lost cause. The one-time top pitching
prospect in the chain has been used in an unofficial rehab capacity, pitching
only eight innings in six games (four starts). 2.16, 1.44, 11.88-SO/9, but a
5.40-BB/9.
I don’t expect to get any more
info on this. This is how the Mets roll when it comes to injuries.
The New York Mets have placed RP Seth Lugo on the 10-day IL with shoulder tendinitis.
He has been replaced with P Hector Santiago, who
will have to be added to the 40-man squad.
Welp.
And in ‘non-baseball related news’ Mets stiff
outfielder, Yoenis Cespedes, fractured or broker
his right ankle while doing something stupid on his farm.
This is what’s called a
‘non-baseball related injury’. You can collect 100% of the insurance policy you
have on this guy and cortar el pescado this dude.
Kudos –
Mack’s mystery first baseman
future prospect, A-Columbia 1B Chase Chambers,
goes 4-4, raising his seasonal BA to .299
A-Columbia RP, Tyler Megill: 1.2-IP, 0-R, 0.00
SP Dedniel
Nunez had another nice outing for A+ St. Lucie: 6-IP, 1-ER, 3-K (2.57)
AA-Binghamton ‘red’ chip SP, Anthony Kay, took a perfect game into the 7th
innings and left with a stat like of: 7-IP, 0-R, 0-H, 7-K, 1-BB, 2nd
in league leading 1.07-ERA (leader in WHIP: 0.77.
Kay has nine starts under his
belt now and I can’t remember a Mets pitcher pitching this dominant in the
AA-level. The least the Mets should do is bump his to Syracuse. The most? Well,
he would have to spot start better than Font, right?
Tuesday, May 21 –
-AAA-Syracuse
activated P Sean Burnett from the IL list.
The 36-year old has pitched in
4-G this year for Cuse… 13.50-ERA. Last year, in AAA ball for Miami: 17-G,
5.49.
-AA-Binghamton
releases P Zack Jones
-Low-A
Brooklyn reassigns IF Ruben Tejada to AA-Binghamton
-AA-Binghamton
reassigns SS Arismendy Alcantara to
SSS-Syracuse.
Boy, the Rumble Ponies just can’t
seem to keep their 25-man down. Change is constant in Binghamton… Jones threw
in four games (5-IP) and ERA’d out at 14.40/2.60. He’s been on the IL for most
of the season before being released… frankly, I forgot Tejada was still around.
… (fuck you Utley)… but Alcantara is not a write off. He’s 27, hitting ,263 for
the B-Mets and, is expendable now that Luis Carpio joins
Andres Gimenez and Sam
Haggery on the B-Met inner infield.
Kudos

-A+ St. Lucie SP, Tommy Wilson, put up an impressive start: 7-IP, 0-R,
5-K. Seasonal ERA: 2.01
The 22-year old is starting to
turn Florida heads. He started this season giving up 9-ER, in 4-starts,
19.2-IP. Since then, in the past four starts, he has given up only 1-ER in 25
innings.
I’m raising him to ‘blue’
prospect status
-RP Andrew
Mitchell’s debut at A+ St. Lucie: 2-IP, 0-R, 3-K, 0-BB, 0.00
-SS Ruben
Tejada’s debut with AA-Binghamton: 2-4, double, R, RBI
-AA Binghamton SP, David Peterson: 5-IP, 0-ER, 8-K, 3.93.
He may not be putting up Kay
numbers, but he seems to have straightened out the direction of the ship.
He had a horrendous start this
season, capped with a 7-ER, 1.2-IP outing on 4-29. He made the proper
adjustments (ones that all potential great pitchers do) and, since then, in
four starts, he’s given up 3-ER, in 20.2-IP.
Yes, he is still having a hard
time getting past the fifth inning, but I’m returning him to being a ‘red’ prospect,
with an ETA of opening day 2020.
-AAA RP, Stephen
Villines, continues to dominates – 0.2-IP, 0-R, 0.00
-A-Columbia 1B, Chase Chambers: 4-2, .310.
-A-Columbia P, Chase Hutchinson, pitched the backend of a piggy:
3.2-IP,0-R, 2.61
Wednesday, May 22nd –
The
Mets placed OF Brandon Nimmo on the 7-day IL…
they called up OF Rajai Davis to fill the open
outfield slot, but had to add him to the 40-man… this, they DFA’d RP Paul Sewald.
This is how the 7-day IL is supposed to
work. Sit down a player with a stiff neck and give him time to heal… however;
something tells me here that there is more to this.
As
for David, I’m happy we are going to get a peek at him. Sure, he’s 38, but he’s
hitting a respectable .277 in Syracuse.
The
departure of Sewald shows you the downside of the 40-man system. Pitched 3.86
in four Mets appearances this season. Let’s hope no one claims him.
Kudos –
AA-Binghamton SS, Ruben Tejada, continues to prove he’s playing at the
wrong level: 3-4, .556
Simply put, other than Szapucki, lots of interesting pitcher narratives.
ReplyDeleteHitters? What hitters? Really?
If he had not gone into witness protection, Gavin Cecchini (his former name) might be the Mets minors' best hitter. Not a comforting thought.
Anyone notice the kicked-in-the-butt Wilmer Flores is hitting .281 for Arizona?
ReplyDeleteWilmer Flores fractured foot on HBP.
