Syracuse 16 - Buffalo 2

Buffalo, NY (May 28, 2019) - Every Syracuse Mets batter reached base during a 16-2 rout of the Buffalo Bisons on Tuesday night at Sahlen Field. Four Mets batters had multiple hits, and the Syracuse bullpen allowed just one combined hit over the game's last four and 1/3 innings.

Syracuse (26-24) started the scoring in the top of the third inning. Arismendy Alcantara hit his second home run since joining the Triple-A club last week, a two-out home run over the right-center-field fence for a 1-0 Mets lead.

Buffalo (20-27) quickly answered in the bottom of the third. Jordan Patterson walked and moved to second when Chris Flexen balked. Two batters later, Socrates Brito grounded a single into right field to score Patterson and tie the score, 1-1.

The Mets started to break the game open in the fifth. Luis Guillorme walked, David Thompson reached on a fielder's choice error on Sean-Reid Foley on a throw to second base, and Tim Tebow walked to load the bases. Alcantara brought home his second run of the game on a bases-loaded walk for a 2-1 Mets lead. Two batters later, Rubén Tejada singled home two runs to push the lead to 4-1. Then, René Rivera hit a sacrifice fly for a 5-1 advantage.

The Herd got a run back in the bottom of the inning. Both Andy Burns and Patterson singled, placing runners at first and second. Anthony Alford followed with a single to bring Burns home and cut the lead to three, 5-2.

The Mets were quick to respond in the sixth though. David Thompson hit his third home run of the season for a four-run lead, 6-2.

In the seventh, Alcantara singled to lead off the inning. Then, back-to-back doubles by Grégor Blanco and Tejada brought in two runs, extending the lead to 8-2. Three batters later, after a walk, Herrera hit a three-run home run to push the lead to 11-2. That homer was the ninth of the season for Herrera.

Syracuse’s scorching offense added four runs in the eighth. With two outs, Rivera singled home Alcantara from second base. Taijeron followed with a two-run home run. Then, after Herrera reached on an error, Guillorme doubled him home to extend the Syracuse lead to 15-2.

The Mets pushed a final run across in the ninth. With two outs and runners on first and second, Rivera singled to right-center field, scoring Alcantara from second to make it a 16-2 ballgame.

Syracuse and Buffalo continue their three-game series on Wednesday night. RHP Walker Lockett will be on the mound for the Mets opposite RHP Andrew Sopko for the Bisons. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 p.m.
