Mack – Francisco Alvarez, Frank Valentino, My 2022/2023 Mets , Transactions

Friday, July 5th

17/yr. old C Francisco Alvarez (2.7mil bonus in IFA Draft last year) was promoted from the GCL-Mets to Rookie-Kingsport.

PC - Ed Delany
He opened up this season at the GCL level and hit .462/.533/.846/1.379, 2-HR, 10-RBI in 26-AB. The Mets are starving for a star catcher and it’s great to see they aren’t holding this kid back.

Expect him to finish the season off in Kingsport.

Also, expect blue prospect, C Andres Regnault (.314), to be sent from Kingsport to Low-A Brooklyn

PC - Danny Tripodi
Late last month, AAA-Syracuse 2B, Dilson Herrera, opted out of his contract with the Mets. I’m sure he was frustrated that, even with a team leading 17 home runs, he couldn’t get the phone call from Queens that he desired.

     Well, he’s back.

Speculation is no other team offered him a major league contract, so he has resigned with Syracuse

Well, we said in our last post that AAA-Syracuse had too many starters on their roster. Well, they solved one slot… for now. Anthony Kay has been placed on a temporary inactive list. A few days off leading up to The Future’s Game that he will be participating in.

AAA-Syracuse IF, Gavin Cecchini, to AA-Binghamton.

AA-Binghamton RP, Andrew Church, to IL.

Kudos –

      A+ St. Lucie SP, Dedniel Nunez: 6-IP, 1-ER, 4-K

      A+ St. Lucie RP, Thomas McIlraith: 2-IP, 0-R, K

      A-Columbia 1B, Chase Chambers: 3-5, 2-R

      A-Columbia SS, Shervyen Newton: 4-5, 2-R, 4-RBI

        A-Columbia SP, Willy Tavares: 5-IP, 1-ER, 3-K

      Spoiler Alert:

Low-A Brooklyn SP, Frank Valentino: 5-IP, 5-ER

This could a long stretch to find a quality starter.
The 25/yr. old is a local West Islip guy, graduated from something called The New York Institute of Technology (NIT).

He started 7 games (13 overall) for NIT as a junior and produced a 5.72-ERA. He followed this up in his senior year (2017) with 12-starts and a 5.05 ERA.
Okay… maybe I’m missing something here and the powers to be at the Vallejo Admirals (PacAssoc Indy) saw something that NIT missed… 2018: 16-starts, 5.08.

Maybe he’s a strike out dude who needs some straightening out… three year KO/9: 7.49, 7.35, and, last year, 8.44.

Did someone work with him on this?

Valentino’s first appearance this year was on June 30th… 5-IP, 0-R, 5-K

DSL-1 RF, Freddy Valdez: 3-5, 2-R, .280, .809-OPS

The 17/yr. old seems to be out of his hitting slump after getting off to a meteoric start when the season started.

I truly believe he will end the season playing in Florida for the GCL team.

DSL-2 SP, Erickson Ortega: 3-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 1.50

AA-Binghamton RP, Adonis Uceta: 1-IP, 0-ER, K, 1.91

I speak often about a total rebuild by the ‘Boys From Boston’, concentrating at the lower levels. They are concentrating their time and effort on stocking the short season teams, regardless of what is going on in Queens.

  1. Prospects need to dazzle us!

Herrera was right to test the market - but his average and fielding under-performance dilute his HR surge

  2. Baty is 0-11 with 9 Ks in 3 Kingsport games - rushed?

  3. Greg Guerrero 2 for 31 in last 9 games??

  4. Yeah, I think Baty is being rushed.

    And Guerrero? Toast.

  5. I think it's fans who are rushing---rushing to judgment on Baty, that is.

C'mon, folks. After all of ELEVEN ABs?
