The
Mets placed SP, Zack Wheeler, on the 7-day IL
due to a tired pitching shoulder.
This
pretty much kills any chance of trading him before the trading period ends this
month.
Question.
Should the two parties consider a one-year QO, probably more than anyone else s
going to pay him in 2020 due to this injury, and we can revisiting this dance
next year at the time?
The Mets recalled RP, Jacob Rhame, from AAA-Syracuse

Wow.
The ‘Guns of the Cuse’.
No,
this team is not playing in the PCL anymore.
Guess
they got their hands on some of those balls used in the Home Run Derby.

This
is Raul’s fourth season as a Met. He came out strong in 2016, hitting .327 for
the combined DSL teams. Then, he levels off for the next two seasons, hitting
.253 for GCL team in 2017 and .270 for K-Port last year.
The
Mets started him off this season in Brooklyn, but, after hitting .111 in
18-ABs, they returned him to the GCL team.
I
don’t know what the future will be for this 20/yr. old.

A+ St. Lucie
RHP
Connor O’Neil was transferred from A+ St. Lucie
to A-Columbia
The
New York Mets traded RP Wilmer Font to Toronto
for ‘cash consideration.
Look,
I know we took a shot here. We traded an 18/yr. old prospect out of the DSL
teams (Neraldo Catalina) but we had to roll the dice and try to fine someone
that could either plug the holes in the bullpen and be a 5th starter.
It
didn’t work, but now we have at leave turned this into cash that I hope can be
used next June signing a 2020 IFA.
(BTW…
Cataline is currently 2-0, 2.35, in four games for the GCL Rays)
OF Braxton Lee was
transferred to AAA Syracuse from AA-Binghamton
There
has to be a corresponding move here. Syracuse now has, count them seven outfielders
on their active roster: Lee, Davis, Avant, Blanco, Liriano, Altherr… and Tim
Tebow.

ReplyDeleteWagner promoted to St Lucie, first game 2 for 4...nice.
I'm confused as to why the mets didn't bring up Rhame to serve his suspension day until after they are really out of it? Why during a crucial winning streak? They were short in the pen for extra innings cause of it.
ReplyDeleteWrapping up this past weekend Mets games, there is the good, the bad, and the ugly.
ReplyDeleteThe largest good was the starting pitching.
The bad was a very unqualified homeplate umpire in yesterday's game.
And the ugly was our two All Stars coming unraveled. Keith17 needs to sit them down and explain things better to them so that they understand not to press.
Not every swing needs to be a homerun one. Sometimes a team can win with just singles and a run or two.
With the bullpen it is a learning process, however, the selection and order of relievers coming into ballgames needs to be improved with the Mets.
ReplyDeleteThere is a thing called long, middle, set-up and closer relievers.
The hardest throwing, late inning reliever by rights should be the closer.
It's the selection and order thing here.
To me, the Mets need one more solid homerun guy to compliment "Polar Bear". The other homerun batters here now are a little too inconsistent to be totally counted on for this role.
ReplyDeleteDavid Wright age reduced back to age 25 would be perfect a thing for this assignment. But until that can be arranged, we need someone from outside the organization for this.
Mets would trade one of their "big three" starters here now, along with a young corner outfielder to the Padres for that more consistent homerun producing outfielder. Coming back here would be something like: OF Hunter Renfroe (.247/27 HR, .308) or Franmill Reyes (.251/26/.309). Along with Renfroe, a couple of younger starters like right-hander Luis Patino, and left-hander Adrian Monejon.
To me what's currently missing with this Mets team right now are a few tweaks and upgrades being addressed.
To me, the Mets have some cleaning up to do within their own pitching staff, a few dogs to let outside. But they do have MiLB pitchers worthy of a shot here too.
ReplyDeleteI really do not get AT ALL why this 2019 Mets team is pressing like it has been lately. Winning teams don't press, instead they simply play at a consistent high level with a sense of unspoken urgency.
Pressing is for cleaners and it ruins your batting and fielding smoothness and thought patterns.
The Mets management needs to get off the "hope and wish treadmill" that they have been on for maybe too long. A toad is a toad, and a fish a fish.
ReplyDeleteWith the proper tweaks and player development this could be "KISMETS" here I tell ya'!
It is within grasp now.
Another stray brained idea is to make a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. Thinking maybe one of the Mets top righty starters for lefty starters Jalen Beeks age 26 (6-0 with a 2.78 ERA/1.26 WHIP) he starts tonight against the Red Sox. Jalen has four pitches, and what I really like the most is that he hides the ball well when in his delivery. Mets would also get back AAA Durham Bulls lefty starter Brendan McKay age 23, 6-0/1.22 ERA/88 SO's in 66 innings/ .80 WHIP. and currently out injured with a 2018 TJ surgery, righty starter Brent Honeywell who right before his TJ injury was a highly rated right-handed starter.
ReplyDeleteLogic could potentially be Tampa Bay Rays want a wild card this year. With a top three Mets starter in fold, they would better be able to compete with the big boys and have a top three rotation that included the Mets new starter via this trade, Morton and Snell.
In return the Mets would get three young solid starters back, providing Honeywell could make it back in 2020 one hundred percent healthy. The two new lefty arms would mesh in with the two remaining proven righties here now and not traded by the Mets. And then also hopefully with another lefty starter Met Anthony Kay in 2020.
Has Merit.
Red Sox and TB Rays tonight. Good one to watch.
