OPEN THREAD - Untouchables

There are a couple of gems that came out of the minors with very little fanfare, which proves it can easily happen again.

After Pete Alonso and Jeff McNeil are there any other untouchables on the roster?

  1. Let me lead off here.

    Jake deGrom

    1.He is a great pitcher

    2. His contract expires in year 4000

  2. Well, de Grom is certainly close to an untouchable, but if another team offered up the sun, the moon and the stars then you'd have to listen. Suppose San Diego started off with a deal including Fernando Tatis, Jr., Luis Urias, Francisco Mejia and Franmil Reyes...you wouldn't consider it?

  3. Another team would never include Tatis+ so yeah untouchable. I would trade DeGrom for him easily. The kid is 20 years old and crushing it with a .992 OPS and elite defense at a premium position making the league minimum under control for 5.5 more years. Everything you hoped Rosario would be. At least Rosario has had a good July, hopefully an improvement he builds on!

  4. Jake, for sure.

I still like Conforto and would hold onto him, despite who is agent is.

Alonso, McNeil and......not much else on the current roster.

It's not that I don't like the rest of the crew. The team is in need of new blood, or a refresh, if you will.

I would trade anything not nailed down for pieces that will be a part of the future. Oh and would it be too much to ask
for BVW to focus on some defense while he is shopping?

  5. No one besides Jake and Pete are untouchable. Simeon woods Richardson, too.

  6. Diaz almost has to be untouchable, the pen is so bad.

    Be realistic.

You just can't suppose a team would offer up their top 4 players

  8. There are Zero Untouchables on this team... Degrom to me is the face of the team and the only one who has a shot to be a HOFer but with the way this team is we should be listening for everyone...

    1. Trade Alonso and people would rarely be seen again at Citifield.

  9. Some say you sell high on Alonso and McNeil. That way you can play Dom at his natural position and not play McNeil in the OF. If someone took Cano and Cespedes, would you give them Alonso or McNeil?

  10. You can tear a house down but you can not melt the foundation.

    Jake is our Seaver

The poler bear is Gil Hodges

And McNeil is quickly becoming David v2.0

  11. When you want to improve, you need to be open minded. A first baseman slugger is nice, but not irreplaceable. If I can cash in Alonso for a top prospect at another position and an arm, I’m on it. McNeil, I wouldn’t touch as he plays many positions. JdG is hard to replace, but at 32, if he can be cashed in for several good prospects, not Zachary, Flynn, Henderson and Youngblood, is do it. I’m talking two top 100 and two more top 150.

There’s no value in Cespedes, so just leave him out. Another player I’d like to sell high on is Vargas. If teams don’t give up anything good, I keep him and activate his $8MM option.

  12. Untouchable? Pete and Degrom.

If that Minnesota rumor (mlbtraderumors) is for real, you have to think about trading Syndergard. The thing is, for players with the most value, you want to get them out of your division (except the marlins) and you cant trade anyone with term to the Yankees. I mean i guess you could but it would have to be an obvious overpay. 1.50 to a dollar type thing.

As for Diaz, he has 3 years after this one remaining, that a lot and considering what the mets gave up to get him its a lot. If the braves are really interested, knowing you'd have to face him for 3 years means it would cost a fortune especially bc this arb numbers are going to come in lower after this years meltdown. He might not get 4mm in arb 1, which going into the year seemed almost impossible. that also brings down arb 2. so value wise if he reverted to an elite closer the team would get 3.5 years for no more then 25mm. 2.5, 6, 15. thats huge value (not take cano back value, but ya know, mets going to mets.)

I just sent my nephew a thor t-shirt and ill be pissed if they trade him unless i have to look at it and go, yeah you have to do that. Those prospects are elite.

  15. deGrom would have to be the only other untouchable in addition to Alonso & McNeil
