Tom Brennan - SPOTLIGHT ON METS' MINORS RELIEVER JEFFERSON ESCORCHA

SPOTLIGHT ON METS' MINORS RELIEVER
JEFFERSON ESCORCHA

I like guys who are successful.

Jefferson Escorcha has been successful.

The 5'11", 180 lefty 19 year old has done the following:

2017 - DSL - 29 IP, 3-2, 1.84 ERA

2018 - DSL - 57 IP, 5-3, 1.57 ERA, a micro 0.78 WHIP.

2019 - Kingsport - 18 IP. 4-0, 1.53 ERA, 1.13 WHIP.

He has 105 Ks in 104 pro innings.

Of course:

Success at lower levels is not a clear indicator of future success at higher levels.

But, like, I said, I like successful guys.

And Jefferson Escorcha has been successful.

What's not to like?

MEANWHILE, IN THE SIMILAR NAME DEPT.:

Jhonfran Escalona - judging from his K #'s, not a fireballer.

But in 2018, in the DSL, 4-0, 1.88 ERA, 0.79 WHIP.

In 2019, mostly in the GCL, 2-0, 0.35 ERA, 0.92 WHIP.

Now THAT'S effective.

Good work, Jhonfran.

  1. To paraphrase Robin Williams as Adrian Cronauer in "Good Morning, Vietnam", "The first thing Jhonfran is we have to requisition you a new name."

  2. I dunno - I'm a big fan of Jhonfran!

Jhonfran, Jhonfran, he's our man, he can't do it, Escorcha can!

  4. Funny (maybe only to me) observation: the two DSL teams are mid-game right now, and both have 3 runs, 3 hits, and 3 errors.

  5. Tom, thanks for posting this. Also look at lefty reliver for the Cyclones, Andrew Edwards. 7 games, 3 Saves, 14 innings, ERA under 2. Saw him pitch here in Troy and he looked good.

  6. John, you bet - Brooklyn every year seems to have promising pen arms popping up.

  7. Mack was all over Seth Beer as a power bat last year before the Mets picked Kelenic in the first round.

The 22 year old Beer is tearing up AA - in High A and AA this year, hitting .316 with 15 doubles, 21 HRs and 74 RBIs in 87 games. Left field dynamite. Houston took him. We didn't.

Mets fans would love a Beer.

  8. Houston also has a First Baseman/outfielder named Bierman playing up here in Troy.
