August 19th Transactions and Kudos: Nick Rumbelow, Jordany Ventura, Corey Oswalt, David Peterson, Matt Allen

The New York Mets acquired P Nick Rumbelow.     

I remember when the Yankees drafted him in the 7^th round of the 2013 draft. He had a decent 3-season record pitching relief for LSU.

He had decent numbers throughout the lower levels, but really took off in 2017 (AA/AAA) going a combined 5-1, 1.12, 0.79 in 25 outings.

In 2018, he moved on the Seattle, where he posted a 2.04-ERA in 13 outings, but hit the major league wall in Seattle (13 appearances, 6.11, 1.42).

Then all the shit hit the fan this year, going 19-apps, 8.17 for AAA-Tacoma and 3-apps, 27.00 for Seattle. 16 walks in 26 innings.

He was released and the Mets found him pitching Indy ball

I guess it wouldn’t kill the Mets to try and correct what the 27-year old is currently doing wrong, though pitching to major league umpires with their zones, is a lot different for a rookie.

Then again, how many times have we seen this work?

The GCL Mets promoted RHP Jordany Ventura to Rookie-Kingsport.

Ventura, 19 years old, went (2-1) with a 4.26 ERA in the DSL and GCL this season. He has 45Ks in 44.1 IP.

AAA-Syracuse – SP Corey Oswalt: 7-IP, 0-R, 3-K, 2.85

      Oswalt can sure pitch AAA ball, can’t he?

Maybe this is one of the guys we can add to the… err… nah. Not gonna fall for this again.

AA-Binghamton – SP David Peterson: 2.2-IP, 7-ER

      DANGER MR. ROBINSON.

Peterson was humming away after two shutout innings when his whole world fell apart in front if him… again.

Frankly, this season isn’t working for him and it is another lost year for our former first round pick.

Like Ryley Gilliam before him, I would shut him down for the remainder of the season and start over in January.

Low-A Brooklyn – RP Corey Garconi: 3-IP, 0-R, 5-K

Nathan Jones started the game (3-IP, 0-R, 1.80), but the star of the night goes to Garconi who picked up this eventual shutout in the fourth.

Rookie – Kingsport – 3B Brett Baty: 2-5, 2-R, 6^th HR, 2-RBI

             GCL – SP Matthew Allen: 2-IP, 0-R, 2-K, 1.42

Another top-notch outing by Matt. Only 13 pitches, but 12 were strikes.

            DSL-1 – SP Williams Valencia 5-IP, 0-R, 3-K
