From the various reports I read there were two motivations in dumping Vargas -- petulance over his temper tantrum earlier in the year. Banishing him from the Mets was the punishment (though some might make the case that staying on the Mets is a greater punishment). Second, even with sending money over to help defray his remaining salary, they get out from under the option money for next year. No one ever went broke underestimating the cheapness of the Wilpons.
ReplyDeleteReese, only Nelson Doubleday. He's the only person who ever assumed the wilpons to be cheap and got screwed.
ReplyDeleteI ask seriously this question: "Is there a law or MLB rule that directly forbids trades of baseball assets, such as, players, signing pool money, for non-baseball assets, such as, commodities, real estate, oil, stocks? I ask because once again Mets trades simply do not balance out equitably, even after totally accepting the liar's rationale of the Mets GM and PR.

ReplyDeleteI don't think there is.

ReplyDeleteRemember... trades like the Greinke deal are not cash balanced
