SAFE AT THE PLATE, WITH TONY PLATE
The New York Mets held on to Zack Wheeler, Noah Syndergaard
and Todd Frazier, much to the surprise of some of the baseball followers here, since
Wheeler and Frazier will become free agents at the end of the season.
If they leave the team after the season is over the Mets will receive draft picks. There were rumors long before the trade deadline expired that the three would be dealt.
They say that some of the best trades are the ones that you do not make. The front office figured that it was in the best interest of the team to hold on to the players since they were within reasonable striking distance of the final wildcard playoff spot.
This decision has paid off for the Mets who have played much better since the All-Star break. The Mets have taken advantage with the soft part of their schedule against teams with mediocre records, however their play still has been impressive.
They have been sizzling and have won eleven of twelve games after last night’s doubleheader victory over the Miami Marlins and are back in the wildcard race.

The New York Yankees were one of the teams rumored to be
interested in Zack Wheeler or Noah Syndergaard. The Yankees have been trying to
obtain Noah since the Winter.
Both teams should do business with each other more often, but the Mets have been known throughout the years to not want to help the Yankees. This should not occur, because in my opinion it is not right.

The two Ohio teams, the Indians and the
Reds made a big trade and the Reds helped the Indians by trading power hitters
Yasiel Puig and Franmil Reyes to them for Trevor Bauer, which is what the
Indians needed.
There are many New York sports fans that cheer for both teams, and it is frustrating for the fans that a trade was not made between the two
teams since the rumor of a trade between the two teams was floating around.
The Mets have the
starting pitching the Yanks need and the Yanks have the position players and
prospects the Mets need. If they did business more often both teams would
perhaps meet in the World Series.
Since the Mets said they would have traded Noah only if they were overwhelmed, the Yankees should have attempted to trade Andujar, Tarpley, plus Florial and Garcia, which are the Yanks top rated prospects, for Noah and prospect Dave Peterson.

I think that would have satisfied the Mets front office and would have helped them in the
long-term and perhaps the Yankees would have been able to get by the Houston
Astros and make it to the World Series.
I bet everybody is happy now.
ReplyDeleteWe are all happy - I just wish they kept Vargas - that one still puzzles me - don't they say you can never have enough pitching?
ReplyDeleteAsdrubel Cabrera would have been great with Cano down, but who knew Cano was going down? A day earlier and I bet the Mets snatch him up.
I'm not. Frazier, Lagares and Hechavarria should not be on the team.
ReplyDeleteReese, with Cano out, Frazier is important to a playoff run, I'd think. Hecchavaria could be swapped with Tejada. Lagares? Pretty awful.
ReplyDeleteYes with Lagares and Altherr I'm thinking there HAVE to be better options somewhere their dreadful and I think that clubhouse meltdown of Vargas's sealed his fate but I'd still rather him than Lockett.
ReplyDeleteremember that Hecchavaria did a decent job with the Yankees last year & now the Cano trade seems to have been a decent trade for the Mets, hopefully Cano can return soon
