OPEN THREAD - Brandon Nimmo

We all know that this team needs a quality catcher and center fielder.

We currently have two outfielders on the IL, one of which should be back next year, but there is a lot of questions if he can play center to the levels a winner need.

So...

Here is the question...

Is there a future for Brandon Nimmo on this team?

  1. I think you begin to build the 2020 outfield begining with the unmovable objects in the infield.

Cano will start at second and a healthy Lowrie will start at third.

This pushes McNeil to one of the corners, with Conforto at the other.

    Left to fill... center.

I stand by my original thoughts on this guy even though he had a remarkable year last season.

    He's an OF4 at best

    1. A LOT of 4th Outfielders AT BEST toss up .900 OPS 5WAR season at age 26 like Nimmo did last year

Not saying Nimmo is or isn’t this or that but 4th OUTFIELDER AT BEST is some scouting eye, Mack Man!

So what does that make JD Davis? A 9th outfielder?

Carlos Gomez is a 21st Outfielder AT BEST!

      At worst!

  2. Not long after he was drafted I saw him play for Brooklyn and mis-judge a fly ball. Over the years he has improved but as a high on base percentage player with limited speed and power, he fits as a role player on a good team or as Mack says a 4th outfielder. I also think the window to maximize his value in a trade has passed. So, keep him as an extra piece but don't count on him to be a star, or even an everyday player on a winning team.

  3. He can be a LH OF4 and you can instead maximize the trade value of want-to-be outfielder Dom Smith.

  4. Agreed, he is a talented 4th OF'er who can stregthen the bench, but not a starter (at least in CF). Don't forget we COULD have Cespedes in the mix next year, too.......

  5. Reyes -

Nimmo is a better fielder than Davis but neither will ever win a Golden Glove

  6. Nimmo would make a good 4th outfielder

  7. Lowliest unmovable at 3rd? A guy who has misses all of 2019? Put McNeil at 3rd and Nimmo at LF (occasionally playing CF when whoever we get for that position needs a break). Nimmo is better than a 4th outfielder.

  8. Autocorrected. I meant Lowrie unmovable at 3rd.

  9. Nimmo? I expected big things this year - then he got hurt. Will we get a healthy Nimmo back? Then he could be a starting OF....2018 was very special for him.

  10. Lowrie missed a ton of time this year and is going to be a year older next year, making him old. just like Cano - old. Lowrie is one big question mark.
