The Syracuse Mets took two from the Phillies’ Lehigh Valley
team Monday and tied the Yankee’s Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team for first place in
the International League’s North Division.
Scranton/Wilkes-Barre beat Pawtucket 7-4.
In the first game, a resumption of the suspended game from
last Thursday, the S-Mets won 8-2 (Box). The 11-hit attack was led by Braxten Lee, 3
for 4 with two runs scored as 6 different players had RBIs including the starting
pitcher, Walker Lockett, with a double.
Lockett gave up a run in six total innings (one
last Thursday and five on Monday) with 7 strikeouts. Nick Rumblelow gave up a run in two innings
in his second appearance for Syracuse and Eric Hanhold threw a scoreless
ninth.
In the second game, the S-Mets winning 3-1 (box),
Chris Flexen back after pitching this last weekend in NY, went 4 innings giving
up 1 run. Brooks Pounders, Stephen
Nogosek, and Tyler Bashlor all added a scoreless inning in relief. For Nogosek, that is now 21 games and 29
innings of scoreless relief for Syracuse.
Once again, a Syracuse pitcher, Flexen, drove in one of the
runs and Danny Espinosa added a homer.
The wild race in the NY Penn League continues.
Brooklyn beat the A’s Vermont team 2-0 on Monday (box)
but Hudson Valley, Aberdeen and the Staten Island Yankees also won. This means that the three-way tie for first between
Brooklyn, Hudson Valley, and Aberdeen stays the same with Staten Island just
1.5 games from the first-place tie.
Garrison Bryant continued his great season for Brooklyn with
two hits and 9 strikeouts over 6.1 innings.
Garrison raised his record to 5-1 with a 2.18 ERA. Wilmer Reyes and Antoine Duplantis drove in
the runs.
Brooklyn has one more game with Vermont before heading to
Aberdeen for three and coming back to NY for three with Staten Island. Hudson Valley will be playing Staten Island
and then Aberdeen. The head to head
games will break out the log jam. I am
rooting for Brooklyn to pull this one out.
Pennant race baseball is fun at any level. It will be all over next week or the Mets may
have two teams in the playoffs. I am
just going to enjoy the ride.

Harol Gonzalez (not Gigi or Gio even) gets the Syracuse win with 5 innings, 5 hits and 2 runs surrendered on a homerun, and 2 strikeouts. Harol is now 5 wins and no losses with Syracuse Mets. And worth watching.
Eric Hanhold and Daniel Zamora pitched well in relief in this game.
