Tom Brennan - MARCUS STROMAN FOR SWR AND ANTHONY KAY - HOW'S THAT TRADE LOOKING?

SNOOKERED AGAIN?

Have our Mets made another (very) bad deal?

Stroman for Richardson and Kay....

You be the judge...

Marcus Stroman brought energy that helped the Mets stay hot.

But in 5 starts, he is a mediocre 1-1, 4.91, 1.68 WHIP.  He was outpitched in a key game against the Cubs last night.

How about Simeon Woods Richardson?

Still the age of 18 for 4 months, he is already in High A.  That's right, High A.

Last 3 starts, 14.2 IP, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, 13 Ks, 11 hits - considering his age that is almost Gooden-esque to me.

Anthony Kay?

Still in AAA - how's he doing?  You judge, perhaps, by looking at his last 4 starts:

24 IP, 2 earned runs, 13 hits, 10 walks, 27 Ks.  Walks a bit high, but that looks kind of Koosman-esque to me.

So I will be the judge first - the Mets gave up too much - again.

You?  What do you think?

And how do you think the Jays feel right now?

I know the Mariners are happy getting Jarred Kelenic in the big trade last winter - he already has a bunch of games in AA and remarkably is doing pretty well at that level - sure looks like a soon-to-be-star in the making.

  1. I really thought Stroman was better than what we've gotten from him so far but you have to give BVW props for "going for it" instead of the Sandy Alderson approach. Now the fact that those 3 guys could be All-Stars in 2 or 3 years will really hurt but where will we be the next few years and will MS be looked at as a big addition? If he's only a 4th or 5th starter in our rotation then it was an overpay for sure. Also I'm really tired of that old line "we battled" instead of we sucked and could Noah have s**t the bed worse than last night? After 58 years of Met baseball the gut punches are taking their toll as it's kinda like concussions there should be a protocol in place but I don't think management will cover it.

  2. Funny how some things never change as Matt Harvey who's 30 years old and could only find a team willing to let him pitch in triple A now thinks a team in contention will sign him. His problem was never his ego right (:

  3. Sandy Alderson's problem was his ego...always thinking he was the smartest guy in the room, always thinking the market would come to him, always thinking he could find the "value" guys.

  4. Guys -

    I like the Stroman trade.

I will take an all-star starter for 2 untested chips any day of the week

  5. Mack, by that logic, you must have liked the Cano trade since he was an All Star.

  7. Viper

    Shit happens.

I will take a future HOF second baseman + the AL top closer for a low level already showing trouble with injuries AND continued wildness plus a starter blowing up at the AAA level... EVERY DAY

  8. I think that it is too early to judge the Stroman deal. You can say all these younger players will be major once in the bigs, but based on what really. Look at Gimenez. Who would have thought that he would struggle with a .245 BA all season in AA. It happens.

The reason the Mets gave up Kay and Kelenic might have been because they have in their system still David Peterson, Szapucki, Gonzales, and K. Smith. Three lefty starters, one right-hander. And that to me is pretty good.

Bullpen is the thing heading into the off season. Maybe give guys like Blackham and Uceta a try now? Could be good. Have no closer right now, and team needs to start the 2020 planning soon.

  9. And on Kelenic...

They already have here young outfielders in JD Davis, Brandon Nimmo, Michael Conforto, and even Jeff McNeil if he doesn't go to the infield.

I'd love a trade soon of: Gilliam and one of the 25 man later inning relievers here now, for Michael Chavis. This kid Chavis is a potential 25+ decent BA type outfielder with a decent D.

  10. The Mets easily won the Stroman deal, he is an All-Star with a 2.96 ERA, Kay struggled when he first went to AAA & has given up too many walks, Simeon has given up 96 hits & has lost 10 games, the Jays also should have made the Mets throw in Szapucki as part of the deal which would have made the deal fair. I know most people are disappointed with the Diaz trade, but when you trade for a RP that has 57 saves as Diaz did, you have to trade away a good prospect like Kelenic in return, Diaz has had an off-year, but the Mets should give him another chance next year before giving up on him. Also, aside from Kelenic, Seattle didn't do that well in the trade either, Bautista has an ERA of 11.00 currently & Dunn's stats aren't that impressive, he is 8-5, His ERA is almost 4.0, he has given up 113 hits in 126 innings. Also they traded both Bruce & Swarzak.
