SAFE AT THE PLATE..............WITH TONY PLATE
The New York Mets lost a crucial series to the Philadelphia
Phillies this past weekend at Citi Field and their playoff hopes are dimming.
Things began well for the Mets on Friday when they pulled out a wild 5-4 to victory when Pete Alonso drew a bases-loaded walk with two outs to cap a hectic ninth inning. Prior to his heroics the Phillies rallied and scored two runs to tie the game against Edwin Diaz in the top of the ninth.

On Saturday, Drew Smyly pitched seven good innings
and the Phillies pounded ten hits off of Marcus Stroman to win 5-0.
On Sunday, The Phillies rallied from being three runs down and scored four runs against Noah Syndergaard who was lifted for a pinch-hitter after five innings and scored six more runs against the Mets bullpen including home runs by Mets nemesis Maikel Franco and Scott Kingery to win 10-7.

When battling for a playoff spot the losses that hurt the most are
the ones that you allow the opposing team to rally against you after leading
them by three runs or more. There was a piece of history in this game. It was
the Mets longest nine-inning game in their history which lasted four hours and
twenty-nine minutes. Their previous longest game was four hours and fourteen
minutes long against The Washington Nationals last year.
The Mets are still alive, but the odds are still stacked
against the them and it won’t be easy with less than twenty games left. I’ve
seen many strange things happen in the past. The Mets will be doing plenty of
scoreboard watching during the rest of this month. The Mets were lucky that the
Chicago Cubs lost three games in a row during the weekend to the Milwaukee
Brewers and the Mets were still four games behind the Cubs after weekend
action.
The Mets began a four-game series against another wild-card
contender, the Arizona Diamondbacks last night and then play the defending National
League Champion Los Angeles Dodgers. Perhaps they will have to go 16-3 the rest
of the way to secure a wild-card spot. The Mets approach should be taking it
one game at a time and stay focused on what they have to do and hopefully get
some wins while they shrink some leads of the other teams in front of them.
Tough to go 16-3, when 3 are against LAD and 3 against Atl.
ReplyDeleteIf you deserve to make the post season, you have to beat the good teams. Otherwise stop talking about the playoffs and figure out how you can beat the good teams next year.
ReplyDeleteI agree, If you deserve to make the postseason you have to beat the good teams.
ReplyDeleteWe'll see what the Mets are made of when they face the Dodgers.
