Tom Brennan - METS FANS HIDE THEIR EYES THIS TIME OF YEAR

"HA-AH-AH-AH, YANKEES WIN...YAN-KEES WIN!"

Yankee fans hear this primal call from John Sterling to celebrate often - and have heard it 3 times already in October.

And they get primal too - joyous celebration coupled with high expectation.

Mets' fans, almost annually, are instead left to:

1) Avert their eyes, or perhaps weep

2) Complain that the Mets' owners won't EVER spend to win like the Yankees do

3) Hope, hope, hope for next year - there's always next year, right?

We Mets fans, some of whom, like me, have been Mets fans since April 1962.

WE DON'T WANT TO AVERT OUR EYES.

We don't want to "hope" any more, rather than expect the playoffs like Yankees fans do.

And we don't want to hear about Mets' modest budgets any longer.

Get it done, owners...we are so tired of always seeming to be the bridesmaid and never the bride.

WE WANT PLAYOFFS - ALMOST YEARLY - LIKE THE TEAM IN THE BRONX.

WE ARE VERY TIRED OF SETTLING FOR LESS.

VERY, VERY TIRED OF IT.

OR...MAYBE IT'S JUST ME.

  1. Maybe it is just me hiding my eyes.

  2. Believe it or not, I am filled with more optimism now than at any time I can recall. The offense is one of the best we've ever had. The pitching was highly uneven last year, but we know what they can do. With a more effective leader on the field and a few tweaks here and there there's no reason we won't be in it right up until the end (and for the next few years, too).

  3. Reese, I don't want the Mets to be there right up until the end (of the season). Have a team good enough to lock it up before the last week.

It is a good sign that Callaway was ejected, despite being Mr. Nice Guy. Seems to be a sign that real baseball success may be put ahead of penny pinching.

  5. Some guy on Facebook posted a picture of him with Yoenis Cespedes at a casino...apparently Yo sat at his table. Yo looked fine in picture, in which the guy said that Yo said he’d be ready and psyched for spring training.
