METS ROSTER MOVES
FLUSHING, N.Y., November 20, 2019 – The New York Mets today announced that they have added infielder Andrés Giménez, RHP Jordan Humphreys, catcher Ali Sánchez and LHP Thomas Szapucki to the 40-man roster. In addition, the Mets designated RHP Drew Gagnon for assignment. The Mets 40-man roster is at 40.
Giménez, 21, is ranked as the 52nd best prospect in all of baseball by Baseball America. He won the Arizona Fall League batting title, hitting .371 last month. Giménez posted a .999 OPS with two homers, five doubles and two triples in 18 games in the AFL. He was named the Mets Minor League Defender of the Year. Giménez slashed at .250/.309/.387 with 22 doubles, nine home runs and 37 RBI in 117 games and led the organization with 28 stolen bases with Binghamton (AA) of the Eastern League in 2019.
Humphreys, 23, made two starts for the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets last season after recovering from Tommy John surgery in 2018. He went 1-0 with a 0.77 ERA (one earned run/11.2 innings) in four games during the Arizona Fall League and was named to the Rising Stars team. He was 10-1 with a 1.79 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 80.2 innings combined between Columbia (A) of the South Atlantic League and St. Lucie (A) of the Florida State League in 2017. Humphreys has a 2.60 ERA in 35 career minor league games with 177 strikeouts in 169.2 innings.
Sanchez, 22, hit .261 with 17 doubles and 33 RBI in 92 combined games between Binghamton (AA) and Syracuse (AAA) of the International League last year. He batted .262 with five RBI in 49 plate appearances during the Arizona Fall League.
Szapucki, 23, had a 2.63 ERA in 21 combined minor league games with Columbia (A), St. Lucie (A) and Binghamton (AA) last year after missing 2018 due to Tommy John surgery. He had 72 strikeouts in 61.2 innings last season and has racked up 188 career strikeouts in 145.0 innings during his minor league career.
