According to DI here are the top 5 high school left hand
pitchers that will be available in next June’s draft:
1. Nate Savino VA Potomac Falls
PG - Nate Savino is a 2020 LHP/OF with
a 6-3 195 lb. frame from Sterling, VA who attends Potomac Falls. Long and lean
athletic build with plenty of room to fill out and get stronger. Hides ball
well in back with a compact arm swing, 3/4's to high 3/4's arm slot, arm is
fast and loose, repeats his mechanics well. Mid-90's fastball, topped out at 96
mph, has excellent running life at times, maintains his velocity from the stretch.
Sharp breaking two-plane slider is spotted well and used with good feel, can
likely add power to this pitch in the future. No present need for a change up
with two dominant present offerings and command. Projectable build and loose
and fast arm indicate that there may be more velocity there in the future.
Elite level pitching prospect.
2. Kyle Harrison CA De
La Salle
PG - Kyle Harrison is a 2020 LHP/1B
with a 6-2 200 lb. frame from Danville, CA who attends De La Salle. Solid
athletic build with long arms and legs for his height and some room to continue
to fill out. Easy and fluid delivery from a mid to low 3/4's arm slot, very
athletic and coordinated on the mound, loose and clean arm action that hides
the ball well in his turn, low effort and under control at release. Low 90's
fastball, topped out at 93 mph, gets bat breaking late running life in on left
handed hitters. Tight slurve type breaking ball that is tunneled well with his
fastball and resulted in weak swings. Nice change up with some sink on it.
Spotted just about every pitch where he wanted for two innings and generated
easy outs while being in complete control. Impressive performance.
3. Dax Fulton OK Mustang
PG - Daxton Fulton is a 2020 LHP/1B
with a 6-6 220 lb. frame from Oklahoma City, OK who attends Mustang. Long and lean
athletic build, extremely projectable physically. High 3/4's arm slot with a
short stride out front, gets very downhill to the plate, uses his lower half
well with good hip rotation and on line release, has a couple of moving parts
to provide deception, hides the ball effectively. Steady low 90's fastball,
topped out 93, gets some nice running life with severe downhill angle. Slider
is tunneled very well off his fastball with tight biting action, has confidence
in his slider and will throw it at any time and double/triple up with it. Nice
change up for a young power pitcher. Filled up the strike zone with three
quality pitches and all of them are projectable to get better with physical
maturity. Very high ceiling talent. Showed his athleticism at the plate, left
handed hitter with good bat speed and a feel for the barrel, mid field to pull
contact, has loose hands and gets to his front side well, 7.09 runner.
4. Timothy Manning FL Cardinal Gibbons
PG - Timothy Manning is a 2020 LHP/OF
with a 6-2 175 lb. frame from Pompano Beach, FL who attends Cardinal Gibbons.
Nice athletic build with plenty of room to get stronger. Gathers on his
backside well and gets positive lower half drive towards the plate, high 3/4's
arm slot with good angle to the plate, stays on line well and repeats his
mechanics. Upper 80's fastball, topped out at 89 mph, fastball is mostly
straight and thrown to spots. Tight spinning curveball with 1/7 shape, has big
depth at times and has feel for locating the pitch. Works to contact and fills
up the zone with a plan. Did not show a change up this outing but that pitch
will be an important part of his development. Polished left hander with some
upside remaining.
5. Liam Norris NC Green Hope
PG - Liam Norris is a 2020 LHP/1B with
a 6-4 215 lb. frame from Cary, NC who attends Green Hope. Big and strong
athletic build, physical presence on the mound. High leg raise delivery, loose
on line arm action in back that hides the ball well, drops his back shoulder
before his arm comes forward, high 3/4's arm slot, ball comes out of his hand
very cleanly with good extension out front, tends to get off direction out
front at release. Low 90's fastball, topped out at 93 mph, gets late run/sink
on his fastball and can generate swing and miss on mid-plate fastballs. Works
between a slider and a curveball, both flash solid at times with tight spin,
curveball is more consistent with good shape and biting action. Has
consistently shown elite level stuff for the past two years but has not always
been able to command it despite lots of positives in his mechanics and learning
how to fill up the zone will be key to his development. Left handed hitter, hits
from an open stance with uphill lifting swing plane, shows his strength well
and can drive the ball, puts the ball in the air.
Nate Savino looks great.
ReplyDeleteI expect to see one these kids in a Mets uniform next year.
