Yanks had luck with Jeter, Bernie, Posada, and of course Mariano. They used that base to build champions, not try to play meaningful September baseball. They have rolled with it ever since, marketing themselves as a great franchise. Tons of revenue, smart deals (mostly). Pretty fearless. Mets passed on A Rod and Sheffield, Yanks didn’t, Mets never do enough.
ReplyDeleteThe Nets were destroyed earlier this decade. They have shrewdly rebounded, by astute player selection, and strong coaching.
ReplyDeleteThe Yankees were helped when George Steinbrenner was suspended, brought in Gene Michael and putting a system on the team. The Mets need Jeff Coupon to be suspended, for that to happen.
