Biggest
news is video of Yoenis Cespedes working out and sprinting that MLB.com posted

seems to be running a lot better.
Mike
Puma of the NY Post says that fear of future owner Steve Cohen is taking over
the Mets manager search. “According to the person, there is concern that if
the Mets hire somebody who wasn’t originally considered for the job, it will
look bad to Cohen, reflecting poorly on a front office that will be in limbo
once the ownership transfer is complete.”
CBS
Sports looked at the things to know about the Baseball Hall of Fame vote will
be announced at 6PM today: 1. Derek Jeter

Walker is in his final year of eligibility; 3. Curt
Schilling is on the bubble as well; 4. Barry Bonds
and Roger

Kevin
Kernan of the NY Posts says that “Baseball desperately needs Derek Jeter to
show the way again”. “Baseball is in a crisis moment. How the game responds
to this terrible loss of integrity will shape its future…On this day, baseball
needs Derek Jeter
to show the way again. Integrity is just as important as batting .300.”
The
Pirates fans? As Rumbunter discussed,
they are thinking they are getting back Mets top catching prospect Francisco
Alvarez.
Mets 360’s Joe Vasile
thinks that Starling Marte would be a smart addition for 2020. “In a world
where a potential Marte acquisition doesn’t cost the Mets Nimmo
or J.D.
Davis, this helps the Mets immediately improve in left.”

Apple had three Managers the Mets should not hire: Dusty Baker, Eduardo Perez
and Luis Rojas. Regarding Luis Rojas they say: “Rojas does seem to have a
close relationship with some of the current Mets players including Robinson
Cano, who I guess is the de-facto advisor to Brodie and company. Not sure why
any player should have any say into anything related to the front office and
the general manager and do find that fact extremely troubling.”
SNY.TV
had how Blaine McIntosh was named the Tennessee high school baseball player of
the year. “Blaine
McIntosh, the Mets' 13th round selection at the 2019 MLB Draft, earned a
prestigious honor this past weekend. McIntosh took home the 2019 Todd Helton
Award, given to Tennessee's high school baseball player of the year. The
18-year-old is a speedy 6-foot-4 center field prospect who was described an as
"explosive" outfielder by MLB.com prior to the draft.”
MLB.com

The
Denver Post reported that “Nolan Arenado feels ‘disrespected’ as Rockies GM
Jeff Bridich nixes trade talks”. “Arenado,
28, signed an eight-year, $260 million deal last February, so he’s still owed
$234 million for seven years.”

ReplyDeleteBold prediction regarding Mets' manager selection: one WILL be selected, Reese won't be happy LOL
Blaine McIntosh could be real interesting this time next year.
Kilome? Show me. Not convinced.
Thanks Tom. Kilome looked good before the injury. Hope he comes back strong this year.

ReplyDeleteNice find on the Hefner post.
Jed (not Clampet mind you but Lowry) is carrying something like a final 2020 season contractual obligation of $11.0. Not bad for a player unable to play in 2010. Jed's injuries have sidelined him and are more serious in nature than earlier on expected.
ReplyDeleteThere have been reports that the NY Mets might be trying to trade in a package deal including another health risk Mets player named Cespedes. Good luck to the Mets.
A better idea might be to include a player that represents immediate playing without any of the risk, and taking a shot in this way for a player from another team that the Mets could use.
Mets still looking at Luis Rojas, thankfully.
ReplyDeleteIt may be a time now to break away from the old, and get into a new Mets era with Luis Rojas at the helm.
I like Mike Miller on the NYK.
ReplyDeleteMike is "sort of" handicapped without enoughh veteran star leadership (maybe Randle) to command the floor. Not unlike these NYM, Mike does have a nice cast of very good younger players to consider, and try to find court time for.
As with any younger team, the NYK players are still growing their proverbial land legs out, and learning this level of NBA play and the NYK system, which may often take between 1-2 years to master. Plus, with so many younger players here now, it is very hard to find each one an adequate amount of court time so that each younger player can become proficient and developed at their own new NBA position. And unfortunately it does not happen overnight.
Plus too, patience is not usually one of a NY sports franchise's best personal attributes. Neither is it their fan's.
Yeah Luis Rojas! Congratulations!!
ReplyDeleteNo more garbage cans! Excellent!!
NYM
ReplyDeleteThe NY Mets and their fans kind of need to finally let go of all the recent players and managers that never really once worked out so well playing and being here. I won't name names.
There are sometimes players that sort of squeak thru to the MLB level on various teams each season (mostly out of desperate need following an injury to the player ahead of them) and then stick around way too long at this level to a point of almost total uselessness. Yet, there they are every single season like clockwork, right back sitting on the bench.
NYK
The Knicks need to put together a stronger team and maybe trim back slightly the number of younger players who right now after 2-3 seasons still are not "getting it" on any true consistent playing level.
Sometimes having more than one in the lineup of five starting players, makes for a confusing offensive game. It tends to be their floor awareness and knowledge of where everyone on their team is on the floor. There is also a "green light" that goes on for all professional athletes I think, once everything has sunk in and they know then intuitively where they should be on the floor. After digesting that, it is clear sailing for them form that point.
However, sometimes a player just never does seem to get it. Sometimes it goes right over their head. And this (in any sport) is probably the most difficult thing for any GM to admit, especially if in a recent prior season they were convinced that this particular player had what it took and was beginning to understand the NBA game.
May have been an illusion or even wishful thinking. Without progress, it will not ever work sometimes. It's the cement wall thing.
