OPEN THREAD - The 2020 Mets Bullpen
New Twitter chatter out there have some saying that the 2020 Mets bullpen may now be one of the best in the business. Of course, a lack of injuries and a return to excellence for Betances, Diaz, and Familia would move us closer to the accuracy of the above statement. What say you?
I'm good with the bullpen to start the year, maybe add another lefty if possible or at least stash some depth in Syracuse. Last year was tough but I think we see a return to closer to 2018 levels for Diaz. He was electric at times last year and eventually having juice works out. Beltran will be a calming influence on all of them and I think he will be a little more of the traditional role guy. Relievers are fickle, let's hope they are back to 2018.
The Met pen could be among the best or among the worst, based on how the big 3 of Familia, Betances, and Diaz bounce back from 2019. Given the 3 batter minimum, a LOOGY would not make sense. Can they upgrade a Gsellman or even a resigned Brach? Sure, but seeing what Harris just signed for that is doubtful. What they really need are a couple more solid gust with options, to upgrade the Bashlors Rhames Sewalds. This is an underrated piece of contenders, eliminating innings of guys who can’t consistently get outs in the big leagues.
It certainly has some depth to it and IF they can all stay reasonably healthy AND pitch close to their career averages then
ReplyDeleteit should be a strength.
It could be a bit too righty leaning, outside of Wilson and maybe someone like Zamora?
Gsellman was not good either.
ReplyDeleteMe?
ReplyDeleteI would clean out some dead wood here and make room for either Gonsalves or Zamora.

I wonder if returning the ball (seams) to 2018 levels will drag Diaz back with them. His pitches 2019 were 8 or 9-1 filthy--gopher-ish.
