John From Albany – Mets Breakfast Links 2/20/2020

Lots to get to, lets hit the links.

The NY Posts says that “Steve Cohen has not given up on buying the Mets, but sources close to the situation say he would want the team’s majority stake in cable network SNY to justify a new bid anywhere near the Wilpons’ $3 billion valuation.”

Per Mets.com: “Right-handers Rick Porcello and Marcus Stroman will start Saturday's Grapefruit League-opening split-squad games vs. the Marlins and at the Cardinals, respectively, while lefty Steven Matz will get the nod on Sunday.”

Lots of SNY.TV video from Spring Training:

Joe DeMayo of SNY.TV had a Mets Prospect Deep Dive: Brett Baty, a third baseman with 30-homer potential. Joe cited this: “Baty's calling card as a prospect is his raw power. Some scouts say he has true plus raw power that is currently based on the center of the diamond and opposite field.”
Per SNY.TV: Mets' J.D. Davis to take 50 percent of spring training reps at third base, where he is most comfortable.

Per the NY Post: Jake Marisnick offered a denial Wednesday to the assertion the Astros were guilty of cheating last season, too.

  1. I read the Post article this morning. Sounds like Cohen could really tie up a Mets sale. The sale could really be a mess, but, then this is the Mets, so I wouldn't expect any less.

  2. Bob

Cohen is a tough guy. Makes Trump and Bloomberg look like rookies.

    Could be interesting.

  3. What got my interest was a sports banking broker saying that other bids may be useless because no matter what is offered, prospective buyers know Cohen will top them. Can we get this over with, please? I know 0.001% is $1MM, but in this area stratosphere, do these people care about a million dollars? I guess they should, but do they?

  4. What's the rush? Doing it right is more important than doing it quickly.
