  1. No way. Give him at most the same amount as mike trout but no more

  2. If we don't, 5 years from now, we'll be asking whether we should give some dude 10 years, $1 billion. Where does it end?

  3. I love Mookie Betts the player and would love the Mets to get him However, my first priority would be to extend the players that have come up through the Mets system by extending Syndergaard, Conforto, Rosario, and others before breaking the bank on Mookie.

  4. Thats A LOT of risk. Could hamstring you for a better part of a decade if it goes wrong. Better ways to invest that money... That being said I would pay the man a lot, just not that much....can you really expect elite production for a decade? I'm going with no.

  5. He could be gotten but then he would go the Zack Wheeler route and all they'll have to thank for the year of production is a draft pick.

  6. How could he go the "ZW route" if he signed a 10-year deal?

I wouldn't give ANYONE a 10-year deal at Big $$$, unless we could resurrect a 22-year-old Babe Ruth.

I completely agree with John. We have a bunch of talented kids who MIGHT "go the ZW route" if we don't pre-empt them with kind of deals we gave David and Jose in their pre-FA years.

Pick the best (or all) of Amed, 4to, Nimmo, Squirrel,JDD, and especially Pete, and divvy up the $440 mil among them.

And save some for Thor, Stroman, and (if he returns to 2018 form) Diaz.

  7. Yes, I would.

The exact terms are not clear, obviously. And maybe even the player isn't clear, since we'll have another season before making a decision.

    So the question truly is:

Are you willing to be the highest bidder for the biggest prize on the free agency market (or does it always have to be another team)?

    Yeah, absolutely.

Would I sign Beltran all over again?

    Yes, absolutely.

It's time for the Mets to be run like a big-time NY club. To bring in the fans. To win championships. To spend and create energy and excitement and pack the stadium and drive up the television ratings. Part of this would be a marketing decision.

    Go.

    For.

    It.

    Jimmy

  8. Mookie Betts? No.

I would have paid Anthony Rendon the money he wanted though.

  9. If you pay Betts $44.0, deGrom $33.5, Cano $24.0, where do you come up with the money to pay Syndergaaurd, Conforto, Stroman, and so on?
    two or three
A question asked I believe on another site - all in on a couple of superstars with lesser supporting staff or a team consisting of some really good players?
As my dad told me - don't put all your eggs into that one basket. I trip and everything is gone
