Blast From The Past - 2010 Third Base Projections

AAA projection: - Mike Cervenak – don’t know much about this guy, but he’s old and he’s white, so he’s perfect for Buffalo.

AA Projection: - Zach Lutz – there’s going to be a lot more press on this very talented kid this year… 11 home runs and 62 RBIs for Lucy last season, hitting .284/.381/.441/.822… turns 24 in June.

A+ Projection: - Richard Lucas – Lucas combined for .318/.414/.534/.948 with K-Port, Brooklyn, and GCL. Looks like he will bypass Savannah and jump straight to Lucy.

A Projection: - Jenry Marte – Marte needs another year in the Coastal Empire to learn how to catch a ground ball. Last year’s highly touted prospect has a long way to go.

Brooklyn Projection: - Aderlin Rodriguez – this just may be the most talented third baseman the Mets have in the minors. Brooklyn will love him. Hit .290 for GCL and will play 2010 as a 19 year old.

Kingsport Projection: - Charlie Hinojosa - another stud, the 6-3 21 year old hit .323 for GCL.

Imbewer Alvarez – so far, a bust… may not make it out of camp

Josh Dunn – who?

Tyler Vaughn – odd man out right now, will probably backup in Savannah in 2010

Joseph Bonfe – tore up K-Port (.327) in 2009, but where do you play him?

James Schroeder – hit .200 in 20 at bats in 2009… next…

Matt Bouchard - ??? – not sure what the status is with Matt’s labrum surgery recovering. I’m sure he’ll spend April in Extended Camp

Overview:

This might be the most talented group of Mets minor league third basemen ever. Yes Virginia, in two years the Mets system will be in the top 5 in the league.

  1. Boy:

Aderlin Rodriguez 10 years after is still just 28, and was .321/.363/.634 in 75 PCL games last year. But a free agent. Maybe Reese can comment on him, as I think he played in El Paso. 174 career minors HRs.

Zach Luts struck out too much and got injured a whole lot - just not good enough to be a big leaguer but a very good minors player.

  2. It's funny you should say that about Aderlin Rodriguez as his name rang a bell and not just as a former Mets prospect, but I'm not connecting the dots to El Paso.

It's very sad to see these flashback articles in that it underscores how very difficult it is not just to make the majors but to stay there. Ask Ruben Tejada how it feels.

  3. Post All Star 2019, Aderlin was a beast: 45 games, .349/.391/.698.

And no 2020 job? No spring invite?
