Mack – Draft News – CJ Van Eyk, Nick Bitsko, Gabe Shepard, Garrett Mitchell, Asa Lacy

Baseball Prospect Journal  had there first mock draft and they picked at #19:

            19. New York Mets:          CJ Van Eyk, RHP, Florida State

CJ Van Eyk is a 6-1, 185-pound right who has a solid three-pitch repertoire that he overwhelms hitters with. He also mixes his pitches well to throw off hitters. His fastball sits in the mid-90s, while his 12-to-6 curveball is his best pitch and consistently generates swings-and-misses. He has a strong feel for his pitches and respectable command. The New York Mets selected Van Eyk in the 19th round in 2017, even though he was headed for Florida State.

http://www.mymlbdraft.com/MLB-Mock-Draft updated their mock and there was a change at #19:

            Draft  #:19    Nick Bitsko
Ht/Wt:          6' 3"/210 lbs
Position:       RHP
School:          Central Bucks East HS (PA)

BA - The top prospect in our 2021 high school draft rankings, righthander Nick Bitsko, will graduate early from Central Bucks East High in Doylestown, Pa., making him eligible for the 2020 draft class. First reported by MLB Pipeline's Jonathan Mayo, and confirmed by Baseball America, Bitsko's addition to the 2020 class makes an already impressive group of players that much better.

A 6-foot-4, 220-pound righthander committed to Virginia, Bitsko showed the powerful repertoire and strikethrowing ability that would have made him fit right at home along with the elite prep pitchers of his elders in the 2020 class. Now, like corner infielder Blaze Jordan and righthander Alejandro Rosario (who were also originally members of the 2021 class before jumping into the 2020 class) Bitsko will be see exactly where his talent puts him a year sooner than expected.

INJURY UPDATE: @SouthernMissBSB RHP Gabe Shepard left last week’s start after two innings with some arm soreness. Some good news for #USM fans, as Shepard’s tests came back clean. He will get as much time as needed to get back to 100 percent, but it’s nothing serious. #MLBDraft

Kevin (Oregon):

Love Garrett Mitchell as a prospect and enjoyed the piece about him in draft risers but I’m curious on how teams view his draft stock being a type 1 diabetic and if that will have an effect on where he lands come June?
Carlos Collazo:  The diabetic issues is probably the most complicated part of the puzzle with Mitchell, because I'm not sure every team views it the same way. The scouts I've talked to are concerned about how he's going to hold up over a full season and point to the fact that he has a limited summer track record. Sam Fuld is a guy that people point to, but Mitchell is in an entirely different phylum of prospect. It is a real concern though.

Mason McRae - @mason_mcrae

Here are all of (Potential Fifth Overall Pick) Asa Lacy's 15 Strikeouts via the Slider, hitters have reached base just once (HBP) in 20 PA. He's thrown his SL 50 times, for a strike 64%, with 28 swing-and-misses. Enjoy 94 seconds of the best pitch in the entire 2020 Draft.
