Tom Brennan - METS HITTERS AND THE SEEMINGLY IMPENETRABLE MENDOZA LINE

That Mendoza Line sure can be treacherous.

Hitting over .200 is a challenge when it is so much fun to look at palm trees instead.

I suppose that must be it.

Maybe you're wondering why the Mets are scoring so little in spring games.

Answer:

The Mets have just 14 guys hitting over .200, and an amazing 27 guys hitting .200 or less.

Those 27?

41 for 289 (.142), 5 HRs and 21 RBIs.

None of those ABs by pitchers, too, so you can't blame them.

Heck, in 2019, the Mets' pitchers hit better than that.

Pretty flabbergasting, if you ask me.

I thought in the spring, you try to impress the brass.

I guess I got that part wrong.
