Andrew Cuomo and Jeff Wilpon Talk Baseball in NY:
NY
Post: New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Wednesday he is hoping baseball can
return soon and made his feelings known to Mets COO Jeff Wilpon. “I said
why can’t we talk about a baseball season with nobody in the stands? Why can’t
you play the game with the players,” Cuomo told his brother Chris on CNN’s
“Cuomo Prime Time” Wednesday. “I think it would be good for the country.”
Adam Rubin
on Twitter: Gov. Cuomo said on news tonight he spoke with Jeff Wilpon.
Cuomo advocated MLB season take place with no one in stands because it would be
good for country to watch. Cuomo said response was that it would require a
reduction in player salaries to offset lack of attendance.

Blast From The Past: Mack Ade – Morning Report – 4-16-13. Among Mack’s musings: “I love spring baseball, much more
than the heat of summer down here in Savannah. That being said, who in God’s
name scheduled a baseball game in either Minneapolis or Denver? Worse than that, schedule it in an un-domed
stadium. What exactly do you do in a stadium like that in Denver? Ice shaking?
Penquin grazing? Nope… baseball. It will
be interesting to see if the majority of the Mets- Colorado games get weathers
out. When would you make them up? On the all-star break? Such an easy mess to
avoid come scheduling day.”

Holy Water from the Gowanus Canal,
which passes near Ebbets Field, the Dodgers' old home, and Holy Water from
the Harlem River where it flows past the Polo Grounds, the former longtime
ballpark of the Giants and the Mets' home for the past two seasons is used to
christened Shea Stadium. The ballpark's namesake, Bill Shea, credited with
bringing the National League back to New York, pours the water from two
bottles, blessing the Flushing Meadow structure on the eve of its debut.

On the second day of the season,
Jack Fischer gives up just five hits in his complete-game effort, beating
Atlanta at Shea Stadium, 3-1. The win represents the Mets' earliest victory
in franchise history.

2011; The Mets are swept in a doubleheader for the
second time in three days as they go down, 4 - 2 and 4 - 0, to the Atlanta
Braves. In the second game, Jair Jurrjens throws seven shutout innings in his
return from the disabled list, while Alex Gonzalez is the hero in the opener,
hitting two of the Braves' four solo homers in support of Derek Lowe's
pitching. The Mets have now lost seven in a row.
2013: The Rockies battle the elements to sweep the
Mets in a doubleheader at home. The opener is delayed by two hours as an 8-inch
snowfall has to be removed from the field, with Colorado owner Dick Monfort
pitching in by manning a shovel, and the day concludes when Jordan Pacheco
singles home the winning run in the 10th inning of the second game, for a 9 - 8
win. The Rockies also win the opener, 8 - 4, as the games are played in frigid
conditions and occasional snow flurries. Reporters quip that there are more
snowmen than fans at Coors Field.
2015: Giancarlo Stanton becomes the Marlins
all-time leading home run hitter when he slugs #155 for his career off Dillon
Gee of the Mets. He was tied with Dan Uggla since being hit in the face with a
pitch late in the 2014 season. However, the Mets go on to win, 7 - 5.

Well said Bob.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Wilpon could work on the NYC hospital boat.
ReplyDeletePut him in the engine room. Three days of him working there and the ship will never leave port again.
