Sports: MLB's 'Arizona plan' remains likeliest path to 2020 season; players may
be asked to take pay cut, report says. CBS Sports provided these
details from reporting by Ken Rosenthal:
- "[Players] have already agreed to take pro-rated salaries based upon a shortened season, but the owners would be asking them to take even less than that due to no gate, parking, concession revenue.
- They would have to be away from their families for however long this goes. Four months without their families so they can entertain us? Mike Trout mentioned this would mean missing the birth of his first child.
- It sounds like the players would be social distancing by sitting at least six feet apart in the stands. That's not really so much a concession as it's ... weird?"

Kaz Matsui hitting 3 HRs in his first season AB is remarkable.
ReplyDeleteI did not read what Kershaw said, but I think any players who want to opt out of playing this year in AZ or FL should be allowed to do so. A number of very rich players might feel it is not worth the personal risk. So, stay home and let others play. Some guys who would have very short MLB careers, if at all, would get to play. Some could do better than expected and make a career for himself. Reminds me of Rick Reed.
Good idea Tom. You have had a number of good ideas about how to handle play this year (NCAA style tournament for example). Maybe Rob Manfred will put you on his task force.
