- Mets pick at #19 –
Pete Crow-Armstrong –
Harvard Westlake HS (CA)
Under Marc Tramuta, the Mets have shown a flare for high
schoolers, grabbing Jarred Kelenic (RIP) and Brett Baty in the first round and
stealing Matt Allan in the third round. However, they haven’t drafted this low
in the first round since 2017, when, under Tramuta, they selected Oregon
pitcher David Peterson. In a class with so many college arms left on the board,
I find it hard to believe that they’d pass up on Cade Cavalli, Cole Wilcox or
Tanner Burns, but I also found it hard to believe that Crow-Armstrong could
fall this far. With PCA, the Mets are getting one of the most successful prep
hitters in the bat, standout defensive abilities and obvious athleticism at a
premium position. After witnessing Kelenic take over the prospect world as a
member of the Mariners organization, I can’t see the Mets steering away from
the Vanderbilt commit.

Justin Lange, RHP, Llano (Texas) HS (unranked to No. 57)
Lange's fastball has gone from the low 90s last summer to
touching 95 mph at a September showcase to sitting at 94-95 and peaking at 100
this spring. He has one of the best bodies (6-foot-4, 220 pounds) and some of
the best athleticism in this year's high school pitching crop, not to mention
that newfound velocity and some signs of a plus mid-80s slider.

11. Mick Abel,
RHP — Jesuit HS (OR)
All along, my preference among the prep arms has been Abel,
followed closely by Bitsko and Kelley. But I didn’t get that sense from the
industry until now, though Bitsko was a close second.
“I see a lot more to dream on with him,” said one
crosschecker. “Better athlete, too. I think it’s a better place to start with
him than the other two, because of the room for growth.”
Abel is 6-foot-5 and 195 pounds, offering a fastball
consistently into the mid-90s. It’s a four-pitch mix, too, including a slider
and changeup that project to plus and a curveball that should be good enough
for him to keep for the long haul.

11. Carson
McCusker, OF, Oklahoma State
McCusker, at 6-foot-8 and 235 pounds, cuts an imposing figure
in the batter’s box, and throughout his Cowboys’ career, he has put up the
numbers to match. He hit eight homers in just 129 at-bats in 2018, and then
followed that up by leading the team in hitting with a .311 average in 2019.
He was off to a bit of a slow start in 2020, hitting .235
through four weeks, but with five doubles and two home runs, he had still hit
for some power, and it was only a matter of time before he broke out. Now, that
breakout will have to come in 2021.

Armstrong sounds like a dandy. You are right, Mack, pitching beasts also abound in this draft.
ReplyDeleteThis comment was Boris Johnson the Prime Minister “ For his part, Britain’s Johnson, who was hospitalized last month with a serious bout of COVID-19, speculated Sunday that a vaccine may not be developed at all, despite the huge global effort to produce one.
ReplyDelete“I said we would throw everything we could at finding a vaccine,” Johnson wrote in the Mail on Sunday newspaper. “There remains a very long way to go, and I must be frank that a vaccine might not come to fruition.”
Are we to be with out sports for the foreseeable future?
We have to find ways to live with this virus.
We never found a cure for AIDS but we have learned to treat it and prevent further spread of it.
DeleteWith no cure, we would have live with this virus the same way.
I saw a doctor on TV that noted that very few young people die of COVID. Basically if you are under 50 and have none of the key pre-existing conditions, your chances of dying from it are well above 1 in 1000. Under 60, and no pre existing conditions, still very low.
ReplyDeleteSo, if everyone else older/sicker stayed home, and the younger folks went about life, they would eventually (perhaps within months) all get it. And make them non-transmitters. Making it then much safer for everyone else, since perhaps 70% could not transmit it...many less people to infect the old timers, who could then re-enter life relatively safely.
Then, no worries about a vaccine Working, because herd immunity and discovered therapeutics would basically reduce this Goliath of a virus to a much smaller threat..
Intriguing.
And maybe next year, this virus morphs to something lesser, like SARS and West Nile did.
ReplyDeleteBack to Baseball fellas no spitting .
ReplyDeleteI would personally love the Mets to draft PCA with there 1st rd pick
But if they went after Cavalli-Blizko or Crochet i wouldnt object
My dream would be PCA-1ST Lange 2nd Cam Brown in the 3rd ,Owen Cassie in the 4th
I spoke to my doctor who works in a hospital and they already have thearupetics that work on the virus. Remisdir(not sure if I spelled correctly) and Plasma therapy. If these are given early in the virus people recover in several days.
