Tony Plate A-Rod Interested in Mets Again

When everyone thought that A-Rod’s chances of buying the Mets will not take place, there now is renewed interest by A-Rod in becoming owner of the team. He along with J-Lo will give it another try to see if they can buy the Mets. He has invested in real estate deals and tech startups. A-Rod loves New York City, because he grew up a Mets fan and enjoyed playing in New York as a member of the Yankees.

Mike Repole, the Vitamin Water co-founder and another investor were thinking of investing up to a combined $250 million. Dave Portnoy, the founder of Barstool Sports, whose reported net worth is around $100 million may also be part of the group. He has connections with both A-Rod and Repole. With all of that money, you would think that they may turn to free agency to sign a few big-name players to improve the team if they buy the team.

The Mets have been through this road before about trying to find a buyer. It almost has been like a soap opera of getting their hopes up and then having the deal fall through. When you get your hopes up for something, sometimes things don’t turn out the way you anticipate they would.  The proposed sale of the Mets to Steve Cohen in which he agreed to purchase eighty percent of the team for 2.6 billion, fell through.

A-Rod prepared himself quite well for a business opportunity like this as he attended high-profile investment conferences and had started his own investment firm, A-Rod Corp. He and J-Lo no longer became interested in buying the Mets due to their money partner, biotech billionaire Wayne Rothbaum wanting to apply more control over the team than A-Rod and J-Lo was comfortable surrendering.

Josh Harris and David Blitzer, who were serious about making a run to buy the team and add the club to their portfolio of teams, decided to purchase a $140 million minority stake in the Pittsburgh Steelers. They are currently the only other competition who are still interested in buying a stake in the Mets, but not as one of the primary bidders.

I think the Wilpons would like to get this over with due to times being currently tough and without any games being played they are losing money. It is not known if the Wilpons’ are going to part with SNY to make the deal possible.

  1. Actually A-Rod has never gone away. He just keeps meeting with new possible investors to join his Alpha Male team.

He also seems to leak to the press every time a new investor comes aboard.

Tell ya this... it's going to take a lot more $250mil dudes to get this done.

  3. I wasn't impressed with Cohen because of his reported shady dealings in the past, and I wasn't crazy about the Jersey Boys after learning how the 76ers and Devils did after they took control.

The new guy is a native of Long Island, has been close with David,is a lifelong rabid Mets fan, and built a successful company which he recently sold for a reported $5.1 B.

I'm certainly not a fan of A-Rod, but he's smart and competitive, with a background as a Mets fan in the past.

This is a combo I can root for.
