Braves vs Mets 8/3/2020. Condensed game in 11 minutes, Braves announcers.

SNY.TV: Steven Matz hopes to get the ball for the Mets against the Nationals on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m., though concerns about incoming Hurricane Isaias have already postponed Tuesday's Yankees-Phillies contest.

Metstradamus: Smile, Though Your Infield Is Breaking. “The good news is that when deGrom was going through his spell, he was staked to a 7-0 lead which probably made him feel like he won the Georgia lottery. It was a jackpot that featured Cano staying hot with two hits and three RBI (dude is hitting .412 for heaven’s sake), and Wilson Ramos getting hot with an RBI single and a two run HR in the fifth to blow it open (dude is hitting .219, so heaven to him is a one bedroom condo.”

Brian Joura Mets360: “deGrom cruised through the first four innings before running into trouble in the fifth with a seven-run lead. Last time out, deGrom got in trouble with his changeup. This time around it was the slider, as he hung one to old batterymate Travis d’Arnaud, who hit it for a homer. The last two homers given up by deGrom came to former teammates, as Wilmer Flores was the last one to take him deep.”

SNY.TV: Mets Takeaways from Monday's 7-2 win over the Braves, including Jacob deGrom's first win of the season. “Monday’s start marked the first time the two-time defending Cy Young Award winner reached double-digits in strikeouts this season.”

Mets.com: These 3 things are fueling deGrominance – “He’s mixing it up; He’s throwing harder than ever; No one can hit his slider.”

Faith and Fear in Flushing: Anyway, the Mets bullpen came in and started by doing recent Mets bullpen things, which was not what any of us had in mind: Jeurys Familia was the culprit this time, allowing a one-out single, double and walk…But Familia got Ozzie Albies and yielded the mound to Justin Wilson, who coaxed a groundball to Alonso from serial Mets killer Freddie Freeman, and the peril was largely past.”

NY Post: Jared Hughes saves Mets from another bullpen debacle. “’This guy is a veteran,’” manager Luis Rojas said after Hughes pitched two scoreless innings in the Mets’ 7-2 victory over the Braves. “’You are thinking of a guy that wasn’t in camp with us, we didn’t see him in games, now you are going to see him in competition immediately. A good addition to the bullpen.’”

NY Post: Wilson Ramos’ breakout came just in time for Mets, Jacob deGrom. “Coming off a much-needed day off Sunday in Atlanta, Ramos returned to the lineup with his best game of the season, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs — including his first home run of the season…’I think the best adjustment made today was Ramos,’ manager Luis Rojas said. ‘He was more grounded, not chasing and he got good results.’”

Mets.com: Rosario (quad), Canó (groin) day to day. “Minutes before game time at Truist Park in Atlanta, the team scratched regular third baseman Jeff McNeil due to lower back tightness. In the third inning, shortstop Amed Rosario departed due to left quad tightness. Two innings later, second baseman Robinson Canó exited because of left groin tightness.”

NY Post: “’It was our fourth game here in Atlanta and coming in from [Sunday] it was real hot,’ Rojas said. ‘It’s unfortunate it happened to three guys today.’”

MLB Trade Rumors: Right-hander Hunter Strickland went unclaimed on outright waivers and has been assigned to the team’s alternate training site in Brooklyn.

MLB Links:

Yankees 6 Phillies 3 (Box Score).

MLB Trade Rumors: Angels right-hander Shohei Ohtani has been diagnosed with a Grade 1-2 flexor pronator mass strain, the team announced. Ohtani is unlikely to begin throwing for at least four to six weeks. He’s day-to-day as the club’s designated hitter.

At County Stadium, Roger Craig suffers his 20th loss of the season when the Mets lose to Milwaukee, 2-1. The defeat is the right-hander's 18th consecutive setback, tying Cliff Curtis' National League mark set in 1910 with the Braves, and one loss shy of A's Jack Nabors' 1916 major league record.
1982
After driving in the winning run in the Mets' 7-4 victory over the Cubs, Joel Youngblood, who is traded to the Expos during the game, flies to Philadelphia and singles for Montreal to become the first player to have a hit for two different teams on the same day in different cities. The 30 year-old All-Star collects his two historic hits off two future Hall of Famers, a single off Ferguson Jenkins in Chicago, and gets his other knock off Steve Carlton in the City of Brotherly Love.

1985
On the same day Tom Seaver records his 300th victory, Mets' phenom Doc Gooden wins his 11th consecutive game, breaking Tom Terrific’s franchise mark established in 1969. The 20-year-old right-hander, going the distance, beats the Cubs at Wrigley Field, 4-1, to improve his record to 17-3 this season.
1985
In a 4-1 complete-game victory at Yankee Stadium, White Sox right-hander Tom Seaver becomes the 17th player in major league history to record his 300th victory, limiting the Bronx Bombers to six hits, all singles. 2012
Mike Baxter sets a team record and ties a National League mark when he walks five times in a nine-inning game in the Mets' 6-4 victory over San Diego at Petco Park. Only five of the 25 pitches thrown to the New York right fielder were strikes, with thirteen of the final 14 being out of the strike zone.

2016
Bartolo Colon becomes the first pitcher in the history of the Subway Series to record a victory as a member of both New York clubs when the visiting Mets beats the Bronx Bombers, 4-1. 1962: After a doubleheader loss to the Mets, 9 - 1 and 3 - 2 in 13 innings at the Polo GroundsReds manager Fred Hutchinson stays in the dugout instead of joining his players in the clubhouse. He then calls the clubhouse and tells the players to be out of there in 15 minutes. They do. Hutch has tickets for Zero Mostel's A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, but doesn't use them.

  1. High-revenue Mariners are said to have axed, cut or not renewed about 30 scouts, execs and coaches. Not sure how that’s going to help them end their worst-in-baseball 19 year playoff-less streak. But it will save them $...THEY DON'T NEED SCOUTS ANY MORE - THEY HAVE KELENIC.

And who said Nolan Ryan couldn't hit.

  2. If those scouts are the ones that insisted on getting Kelenic, the Mets may want sign a few of them.

If the Mariners are looking to save more - we would gladly take Kelenic off their hands. And Justin Dunn as well.

  3. Even a condensed game of 11 minutes is too long to listen to Braves' announcers. We're wasting an effective torture device not yet banned by the Geneva Convention in refusing to make prisoners listen to the TBS guys until they surrender the information we want.

At least 20 years ago, they had the understated wit of Skip Caray, who couldn't hold a candle to his dad as an announcer but at least gave you ... something. Now it's just pure pain.
