#Mets roster moves...
— Michael Baron (@michaelgbaron) August 2, 2020
RHP Jared Hughes has been reinstated from the IL and added to the team’s 30-man active roster.
RHP Franklyn Kilome has been optioned to the team’s Alternate Training Site.
INF Jed Lowrie has been transferred to the 45-day IL.
One more roster move: the Mets announce they traded right-hander Tyler Bashlor to the Pirates for cash considerations.

Their pitching depth, due to 40-man issues, has taken a not-insignificant hit in the last week.
As the #Mets have pointed out in their release, Billy Hamilton ranks second among all CFs with 72 defensive runs saved and ranks second among all active CFs with 55 outfield assists and a .995 fielding percentage since 2013.

BREAKING: The Mets don't know where Yoenis Cespedes is.
— Tim Healey (@timbhealey) August 2, 2020
Team statement: "As of game time, Yoenis Céspedes has not reported to the ballpark today. He did not reach out to management with any explanation for his absence. Our attempts to contact him have been unsuccessful."
Why would Brodie release a statement before making sure the guy is ok?
— Evan Roberts (@EvanRobertsWFAN) August 2, 2020
So today’s fiasco seems to be either:
— Marc Carig (@MarcCarig) August 2, 2020
1. The Mets sent a statement designed to shame Yoenis Cespedes.
or,
2. The Mets sent out a statement to say Yoenis Cespedes didn’t come to work — but without first determining his wellbeing.
A well-run organization would do neither.
Source: #Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes is considering opting out of the 2020 MLB Season. That has factored into his lack of showing up today as he has not made a decision as of now.

Hearing that Yoenis Céspedes opted out of the 2020 MLB season last night, explaining his “absence” today.
— Rich MacLeod (@richmacleod) August 2, 2020
If Cespedes "opted " out of 2020 season, how could Mets not know it? Another Met mortification.
— Mike Francesa (@MikeFrancesa) August 2, 2020
"He's decided to opt-out of the remainder of the season for COVID related reasons"

So, instead of signing Billy Hamilton last winter as a free agent or bringing back Juan Lagares, the Mets have now given up 3 prospects to try and fill CF hole. Blake Taylor, Kenedy Corona, and now Jordan Humphreys.
ReplyDeleteBlake Taylor hurts a little, but Humprheys was DFA'd and no longer considered a prospect.
ReplyDeleteHope you are correct Reese.
ReplyDeleteHumphreys, coming off TJS, pitches to a 0.77 era in the AZ fall league. Small sample and all, but the guy was a real prospect pre-surgery, and seems a lot to give up for Billy Hamilton. But then, I guess that no one in this front office believes they’ll be there a year from now, or at least that they probably need to win now to avoid that fate, so hey, what the heck.
ReplyDeleteI feel like this trade will come back to bite them.
