You Tube: Braves-Mets Game Highlights 9/18/20

NY Daily News: Mets wave white flag vs. Braves, playoff hopes all but dead now. “The Mets made two misguided decisions that led to their 15-2 blowout loss to the Braves on Friday night at Citi Field. Misguided decision No. 1 was their collective belief that Steven Matz had corrected his command issues enough to give him a start against the Braves. Misguided decision No. 2 was keeping Matz in the game until the third inning.”

NY Post: The 29-year-old Matz is winless in five decisions and seven appearances (one in relief) overall this season with a bloated 9.79 ERA. His last four starting outings since Aug. 4 have been even worse, crushed for 25 earned runs over 14.1 frames (15.70).

Brian Joura Mets360 – “In a game featuring two LHP coming off the IL, Max Fried ran his record to 7-0 while Matz saw his fall to 0-5. But Matz had plenty of company in the lousy pitching department. Franklyn Kilome gave up the same six runs as Matz, but in one fewer inning. Jarred Hughes gave up 3 ER in 3.2 IP. The pitching star of the game for the Mets was Todd Frazier, who pitched a 1-2-3 ninth and even got a strikeout...”

SNY.TV: The Mets finally got on the board in the fifth inning. After Amed Rosario singled, Jeff McNeil pulled a double into the corner, and Rosario came all the way around from first to make it a 12-1 game.

Mets.com: Matz knocked out of return to rotation in 3rd.

Fox Sports: Braves pummel Mets, 15-2, behind Ozzie Albies two home runs and three RBI.

Mets.com: Frazier breaks out knuckler in pitching debut.

Metstradamus: “…this team needs three pitchers….Sign Trevor Bauer to be the second starter... Either bring Marcus Stroman back or sign Robbie Ray to be the third starter…Sign Dan Straily, who leads the free world in innings and strikeouts for the Lotte Giants, to be the fourth starter.”

Laura Albanese Newsday: Mets option Luis Guillorme, recall Franklyn Kilome to fortify bullpen.

SNY.TV: Takeaways from Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen, including assessing Luis Rojas, Jed Lowrie's situation, and Seth Lugo's future. “As far as his role goes, we’ve said this for the last two years, that we see Seth Lugo as a guy who can be a starting pitcher.”

Metsmerized Online: Five Things We Learned From Brodie Van Wagenen. “He Has Had No Conversations With Steve Cohen About His Role; Mets Have Discussed Contract Extension With Michael Conforto; He’s Been Impressed With Luis Rojas; He’s Using A Nelson Mandela Quote To Stay Motivated – ‘I never lose; I either win or I learn,’ and that he has shared this quote with the team and the coaching staff.”

Andy Martino SNY.TV: New insight into why Yoenis Cespedes opted out of the Mets’ season. “In recent weeks, Cespedes has told friends that he left because he did not like serving as designated hitter. He wanted to be engaged in the game as a full player and didn’t enjoy only batting. Because of this, he has said in private, he wasn’t having fun.”

  1. Todd Frazier turns a perfect 9th AND a brilliant veteran play in the first to keep the scoring that inning to one run, blocking Freeman from the bag at 3rd base and turning it into an out.

    They still lost 15-2.

Amed Rosario is doing a good job in the "remember me?" category. Can he learn to...catch?

  2. My brother and I grew up Brooklyn Dodger fans.

My favorite was Gil Hodges (Johnny Podres favorite pitcher)

    Brother Bob's was The Duke.

Today is always a sad day for him.
