Thosar NY Daily News: For the first time this year, it all clicked for Porcello
in the Mets' 7-0 loss to the Braves on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field. “He
recorded 10 strikeouts for the first time this year and sixth time in his
career. The righty hurled seven innings of one-run ball, his longest start
since Aug. 5 at Nationals Park, and allowed just three hits and two walks to
the best lineup in the National League.”
Newsday:
“In a must-win game to end a must-win series, their season more or less on
the line, the Mets mustered one hit in the first eight innings. It was close
until Jeurys Familia (one inning, two runs) and Chasen Shreve (one out, four
runs) let Atlanta blow it open late.”

11-for-24 (.458), two doubles, three homers, 11 RBI, 1.452 OPS.

Puma NY Post: “Kyle Wright frustrated the Mets, allowing one hit over 6 ¹/₃
innings before the Braves bullpen finished the job. The Mets received a double
from Wilson Ramos in the third inning for their first hit. Their next hit
didn’t come until the ninth, at which point they trailed by a touchdown and
extra point.”
Metstradamus:
After Chasen Shreve and Robinson Cano bothed a 1-4-3 double play, Ronald Acuna
cleared the bases on a three run double…The ball got into Ramos and his arm
swung through, coming oh so close to tagging the runner but merely serving as a
metaphor for the Mets season where they couldn’t even come close to the third
extra playoff spot, thus turning the season into a tire fire.

On the day they get to .500, the
Mets move into first place for the first time since May 27th, a half a game
ahead of Pittsburgh in the 'NL Least.' Thanks to Tom
Seaver's complete-game five-hitter, New York evens its record at 77-77
with a 10-2 victory, the team's 21st in the last 29 games. |
1987 |
Darryl
Strawberry and Howard
Johnson become the first teammates to hit 30 homers and steal 30 bases in
the same season when the 'Straw' steals two bases in the Mets' 7-1 victory
over Chicago at Wrigley Field. The southpaw swinger is only the tenth member
of the 30-30 club, but is the fourth player, along with HoJo, Indians' right
fielder Joe Carter, and Reds center fielder Eric Davis, to accomplish the
feat this season. |
1987 |
Howard
Johnson breaks a 53 year-old National League record when he strokes his 36th
home run as a switch hitter in the Mets' 7-1 victory over Chicago at Wrigley
Field. The New York third baseman's historic homer, the team's franchise-high
seventh grand slam of the season, surpasses the mark established by
Cardinals' first baseman Ripper Collins in 1934 but is far less than the
major league record of 54 set in 1961 by Yankees slugger Mickey Mantle. |
2001 |
The Mets donate their day's pay,
which totals approximately $500,000, from tonight's game with the Braves at
Shea to a rescue fund for the families of the firefighters and policemen
killed in the World Trade Center terrorist attacks. The contest is the first
professional baseball game played in New York since the tragedy. |
2001 |
A crowd 41,235 at Shea Stadium
witnesses the return of baseball to New York City for the first time since
the terrorist attacks of September 11. Uplifting ceremonies before and during
the game, which include singers Diana Ross, Marc Anthony, Lisa Minnelli as
well as bagpipers, pay tribute to victims of the tragedy. Mike
Piazza's eighth-inning home run gives the Mets a 3-2 dramatic victory
over the Braves.

d'Arnaud and Rafael Montero prove that not every washed up players isn't worth being a little more patient with.
ReplyDeleteCorey Oswald showed promise. Two outs. No runs.
ReplyDeleteMack, the d’Arnaud move was horrific since, last year, the Mets were so thin at catcher after Ramos. Now...he is the best hitting catcher in baseball.
As scouts projected him to be.
