SNY.TV: The Mets welcome the Orioles to Citi Field on Tuesday, with Michael Wacha set to face off against John Means. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. MLB.com Preview.

213 Miles from Shea Game Preview: Orioles vs Mets. “The Mets bats draw John Means who is in the midst of a rough year. Over 6 starts and 20.0 innings he has an 8.10 ERA, 8.05 FIP, 1.400 WHIP and 57 ERA+. He’s giving up 3.6 homers per nine innings.”

MLB.com: Mets erase 6-run deficit but fall to Phils in 10. Peterson was not sharp, hitting the first batter he faced, walking four in two innings and allowing a career-high five runs. Three of them came on Segura’s double, which cleared the bases before Peterson could record a second out.

Brian Joura Mets360.com: David Peterson didn’t have it today but Erasmo Ramirez made his Mets’ debut and kept the game close, as he allowed just one run in five innings. He was in line for the win, too, before the rest of the pen let him down.

Mike Puma NY Post: The Mets, who had earlier rallied from a six-run deficit and took the lead in the seventh on McNeil’s home run, finished with a split in the series and fell 3 ½ games behind the Phillies in the race for second place in the NL East, which carries an automatic postseason berth. The Mets fell two games behind in the race for the NL’s second wild card.

SNY.TV: Mets Takeaways from Monday's 9-8 loss to the Phillies, including Jeff McNeil's clutch homer not being enough. Left fielder capped off comeback to give Mets the lead in the seventh, but New York falls in extras.

Newsday David Lennon: Is Mets' Miguel Castro the new Edwin Diaz? “The Mets talked afterward about the positives, and rallying for seven unanswered runs, and rebounding over these next 18 games. But if they do fall short of the playoffs, we’ll think back to Monday’s brutal defeat, and how it was Castro — a deadline piece meant to prevent such calamities — that imploded at the most costly moment.”

Metstradamus: “Castro tried to get cut with an inside fastball and it was deja vu all over again as Segura parked it and beat the Mets again. Keith should have been on that mound saying that if you throw Kevin Bass a fastball I’m going to murder you. There’s no way you let Segura beat you with first base open when you have a rookie and a backup catcher waiting. It really just unforgivable. Damn Brodie for trading more possible future so that this guy could screw up our present.”

Anthony Rieber Newsday: “In the bottom of the 10th, not even baseball’s version of the NHL’s shootout could save the Mets. After starting the inning with a runner on second base, the Mets scored on Brandon Nimmo’s one-out single. But they could not push across another run against Hector Neris and lost to the Phillies, 9-8.”

SNY.TV: Here's where the Mets sit in the playoff race with three weeks left to play. The Mets sit at 19-23 after Monday's loss to the Phillies, which leaves them with the 11th best record in the National League…With 18 games left in their schedule, the Mets are just 1.5 games back behind the Giants.

Rising Apple: Former Mets Hansel Robles, Rafael Montero headed in opposite directions.  “Through his first 13 appearances, Robles has tossed 11 innings. He has a 13.09 ERA and only a single save…Rafael Montero…has 7 saves for the Rangers through his first 9 games of the year…a 2.79 ERA and a strikeout rate of 10.2 per nine.”

Rising Apple: Three Mets predictions for the final three weeks of the 2020 season. “A major injury, a big reinforcement steps up.” “Jacob deGrom locks in his Cy Young case.” “Mets make the playoffs but just barely.”

Rising Apple: Mets News: Robert Gsellman back to the bullpen is the right move.

MLB.com: Who are the hottest rookies right now?  #8) Andrés Giménez, SS/2B, Mets. “He went 7-for-17 this week including notching his first Major League home run. He also drove in six and stole a base. For the season, the 22-year-old has a .282/.329/.385 line and has gone a perfect seven-for-seven in stolen base attempts.”

MiLB.com: Lane Adams pulled off rare double duty with Braves. Former Atlanta farmhand played in Minors, Majors on same day June 7, 2017.

1964
The Mets announce the signing of 18 year-old right-hander Bill Denehy. The recent high school graduate, who struck out 151 batters in 81 innings, posted a 10-1 record for Woodrow Wilson High School in Middletown, Connecticut, and won three tournament games en route to leading his team to the state championship.
1967
The Mets, at the urging of their fans, honor former Dodger pitcher Sandy Koufax, who retired last season when arthritis ended his career prematurely at the age of 30. The Brooklyn-born southpaw, who threw a no-hitter against New York in 1962, started twenty games against the Amazins, compiling a 17-2 record, that included 14 complete games and 5 shutouts.
1996
Mets catcher Todd Hundley joins Mickey Mantle as the only other switch hitter to hit 40 home runs in a season when he goes deep off Joe Borowski in the seventh inning of the team's 6-2 victory at Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium. The 27 year-old backstop's round-tripper also breaks the club record for most homers in a single year, established in 1988 by Darryl Strawberry.

1969: At Shea Stadium, the Mets top the Cubs, 3 - 2, on Tommie Agee's 2-run home run. Jerry Koosman beats Bill Hands and strikes out 13 Cub batters. Chicago has now lost five in a row and leads the Mets by 1 1/2 games.

1972: In the first game of a doubleheader with the Cardinals, the Mets win, 8 - 2, as John Milner collects a homer, double, and three singles in five at-bats. Milner had another home run in the 1st inning of game 2, but the Cards turn around, using a pair of homers in the 13th to win, 9 - 4.

1993: Houston's Darryl Kile no-hits the Mets, winning by a score of 7 - 1. He fans nine and walks 1. Mets 3B Butch Huskey becomes the 3rd player in history to make his major league debut on the losing end of a no-hitter. Byron Browne and Don Young of the Cubs did so in Sandy Koufax's perfect game in 1965.

2011: The Braves sweep a doubleheader from the Mets at Citi Field, increasing their lead in the Wild Card race to 7 1/2 games. A pair of rookies pick up the wins, Mike Minor in the 6 - 5 defeat of New York in the opener, and Julio Teheran, with his first major league victory, as the Braves prevail, 5 - 1, in the nightcap. All four starters are in fact rookies (Chris Schwinden and Dillon Gee start for the Mets), the first time four rookie pitchers are the starters in a doubleheader since 1965.

  1. Do the Mets minor league coaches teach their pictures not to Tip pitches? Just curious

Terrible outing by Peterson. Hitters almost compensated. The meds are starting to run out of time, and their starters a horrible Other than Jake and Lou go. The hitters will have to be the ones to get us into the playoffs.

Bill Denehy is the other face on the Seaver rookie card.

Gimenez starts until he farts with the bat. Maybe he never will fart. Then he should start. Amed, though, is career .296 vs. lefties. Ultimately, Rosey the Riveter might start some games vs. lefties.
