Puma NY Post: Steve Cohen to blow up Wilpons’ ‘archaic’ Mets technology. “Cohen
has told associates, according to sources, he expects to lose about $400
million on the team in his first two years as the new owner… Behind the scenes, the Mets are
expected to become more analytically driven, perhaps worthy of the nickname the
‘East Coast Dodgers’… ‘While
all these other owners are trying to save money, he’s already spent money,’ a
major league executive said. ‘So what’s another $50 million to put together the
best front office and [infrastructure] he can put together?’”

Rising Apple: What
the Amazins can learn from the Tampa Bay Rays. “the Rays are about ten
quality relief pitchers deep on any given day… Their team defense is always solid and remained so in
2020...They don’t run into outs on the bases. Their fielders don’t misplay
balls in the infield or outfield.”

Sports Media: New York Mets Player Evaluations: Center Fielder Brandon Nimmo. “…his slash line of .305/.393/.534
with six home runs and 13 RBIs is very impressive…He had a -4 outs above
average and a -5 defensive runs saved in center field. Despite having good
speed, he could not combine it with getting good jumps and taking correct
angles to the ball…he ranked as one of the worst defensive center fielders in
baseball.”

Great playoff baseball, with the Mets on the outside looking in.
ReplyDeleteThe Mets need analytics - and a true willingness to do relevant spending.
Relevant spending is the incremental spending a club does to turn it from a decent team to a playoff squad.
Yes. Good playoffs so far. The Braves Bullpen could be the difference maker in the series.
