Online: Carlos Torres Comments About The Minor League Supreme Court Decision.
“MLB did not want players to fight for a right to get minimum wage. Reason why
is they want the owners to suppress wages to a degree that will allow them to
make more money off minor affiliates.”

Online: Lost Revenue From Pandemic Could Create Buyer’s Market in Free Agency.
“Because of baseball’s uncertain economy over the next few years, it is fair to
assume that team’s will prefer to sign heavily back-loaded or even deferred
contracts this offseason. By going against the grain and spending more money
upfront, Cohen could find great value in free agency.”

Pantorno amNewYork: Re-ranking New York head coaches after Aaron Boone’s
puzzling opener call. Joe ranks Luis
Rojas next to last (7 out of 8) ahead of only the Jets’ Adam Gase. “Rojas
didn’t do himself any favors with the way he filled out the lineups, keeping his
most productive youngsters on the bench to play veteran names while the bullpen
was managed horrendously.”
Mike

Preseason Predictions. Mike predicted 15 homers this year from Pete Alonso which he nailed as Pete hit 16 but
Mike added this – “…but he was not nearly as effective as his rookie campaign,
seeing his batting average drop by nearly 30 points and his OPS decline from
.941 to .817.”

The Mets' 9-2 victory over the
Reds in Game 3 of the NLCS will best be remembered for the Pete Rose
and Bud
Harrelson brawl started when the New York feisty shortstop takes
exception to 'Charlie Hustle's' hard slide at second base to break up a
double play. After the fight, the Mets, fearing a forfeit due to their fans'
rowdy behavior, send an emissary, consisting of Willie
Mays, Yogi Berra,
Cleon
Jones, Tom
Seaver, and Rusty
Staub, out to left field to quell the crowd's unrest. |

Mike
Scott tosses a five-hitter and ties a playoff record with 14 strikeouts,
beating the frustrated Mets, who accuse the Astros' right-hander of scuffing
the ball in their 1-0 defeat in Game 1 of NLCS. A Glenn
Davis home run in the second inning off Dwight
Gooden accounts the lone run in the Astrodome contest. |
2000 |
At Shea Stadium, the Mets blank
the Giants, 4-0, to win the NLDS in four games. Bobby
Jones, who was sent to the minors earlier in the season to work on his
mechanics, retires the side in order eight of the nine innings, allowing only
a fifth-inning double to Jeff Kent.
The one-hitter is only the sixth in postseason history. |

ReplyDeleteTravis d'Arnaud, Superstar?
Minor leagues - is there a chance it could be....BETTER? It takes so long for most players that get to the big leagues to....get to the big leagues. Might the changes accelerate development?
You never know Tom. It could happen. I also see expansion down the road which could restore some of the minor league affiliates.
